There is no anti-porn software in existence that’s worth anything. Either it’s namby-pamby stuff that 50% of 5th-graders could bypass, or else it’s too strict (e.g, good luck looking up medical information on breast cancer) but can still be bypassed by knowledgeable people.
As I understand it the Covenant Eyes app that was used wasn’t designed to block pornography, it was designed to report to a third party that pornographic sites were visited. It isn’t a block, it’s a snitch. Josh defeated it by creating a secondary partition on the hard drive and running a separate operating system to download the pornographic material.
So much of fundy Christianity is based on the idea that god is a voyeur watching your every move, and so humanity is nothing but an insect colony under continuous surveillance.
Given that, the idea that snitchware would be their idea of a good idea makes complete sense.
I don’t know why this has to be a Christianity thing, every single Western government has at some point either proposed or implemented snitchware at some point, for either public security or anti-child pornography reasons.
The patriarch is running for the state senate.
Running unopposed, even…
This just in:
The jury in Fayetteville, Arkansas, found the 33-year-old Duggar guilty on one count each of receiving and possessing child pornography. He faces up to 20 years in prison and fines of up to $250,000 for each count when he’s sentenced at a later date.
I’m glad the justice system worked.
Anna and the kids will be safer with Josh in prison.
She isn’t safe from the rest of the Uterine Clown Car Cult.
Well, yes and no. If nothing else, she’ll likely have a reprieve from endless pregnancy and maybe that will help get her some clarity of mind that her life choices could really use some reflection.
She already has seven kids and she defended her husband who was into child porn and had a history of molesting his sisters. I doubt the light is going to dawn any time soon.
Well, I don’t have really HIGH hopes but it’s remarkable how one’s views change on a situation when you no longer have the aggravating cause of it in your face all day, every day. And being stuck with seven kids and no husband with the kind of messaging she’ll have access to re how the world views women who support and shelter child molesters is a powerful incentive to wake the fuck up and smell the coffee.
She’ll likely still be deeply embedded in the cult - she’s got 7 kids to feed, and it’s not like she’s got job skills to fall back on to support them. My assumption is that the extended family is going to be a) supporting her financially, and b) all up in her business, all the time. But yes, she will be spared further pregnancies at least (unless the cult allows for a divorce in this situation, then she might be pressured to remarry).
If she divorces Josh her in-laws will kick her out and probably keep the grandkids. I’m sure she’s being reminded of this right now. Right now, at least, she’s probably thinking “those evil people railroaded Josh”.
On what grounds will her in-laws take her children from her? She’s the mother.
Who’s in a repressive cult. If they told her to leave the kids, she would. She’s a poorly educated woman who grew up doing what they said. She married Josh because her parents told her to.
Two words: conjugal visits.
Ignorance fought. Thanks.
Also good news.
I was worried about that until I figured out he’s heading for federal, yay. And with COVID most prison systems aren’t allowing much in the way of in person visits, including no hugs or hand holding even. Here’s hoping Anna gets her shit together and bails on the whole stinking mess.
