That’s my thinking too, and he hasn’t lied about any of his campaign promises so far, especially as it related to increased rule of law and more enforcement of our anti-illegal alien laws. Just look at the how much more efficient the ICE is now that he’s unshackled them from Obama-era enforcement restrictions. Immigration Agents Discover New Freedom to Deport Under Trump
I did not say you were incorrect about the cost to hunters driving them out of the activity, that’s what I asked for some evidence. You did, and I appreciate that. What you were incorrect on is that there is no environmental or ecological damage caused by lead bullets. So since your first link confirms (in addition to the ones I provided, and I can provide more scientific publications if needed) you were incorrect about this the question is what is more important: 36% of hunters (I’ll assume for the sake of simplicity that this number is accurate and consistent across all states) or avoiding causing lead poisoning to animals and people, and avoiding lead contamination of the environment?
He’s made it clear in other threads that he cares nothing for the environment.
Given his presumed age, he’s never experienced real pollution and has no idea how enthusiastically companies will foul the land, air and water for higher profits.
With regards to the same sex marriage thing: Obama came out in favor of SSM like two months BEFORE his second election.
Politically speaking, he had little to gain by doing so, and so much more to lose. But he did it anyway. And that took balls.
Usually, when politicians “evolve” on such matters, they don’t do it until after the are out of office.
Yep, it was all them nasty, evil Democrats who started a war on fabricated evidence. And under whose watch the greatest economic downturn since the Depression nearly sent the world spinning down the drain. And who are now freeing up business to pollute as much as they can make dollars from, and ignoring the rights of immigrants, legal or otherwise, and resetting health care to, as usual, benefit the wealthiest among us on the backs of everyone who isn’t in the top 5%.
Or so the Republicans keep trying to convince us.
Maybe you slogan-spouting conservatives should go back and read Emma Lazarus’ New Colossus again. On second thought, never mind, it won’t even make a dent.
I think they should just go.
It was actually two months before the 2012 Democratic Convention, not too months before November. Obama only “evolved” on that issue and came out as a supporter after Biden practically forced his hand when he gave an interview saying he supported gay marriage; his supporters and the media would have harangued him endlessly about whether he shared the Vice President’s position.
And to Johnny Ace, I agree that the Iraq War was a big mistake, and that the overeager neoconservative zealots in the Bush Administration left a massive taint on his legacy by endlessly cheerleading for it, at times with heavily exaggerated, or outright false, evidence.
I’ll give the Democrats that; the Republicans who voted for the Iraq War have a lot to answer for as well. According to the Phase II report on the “case” for the Iraq War, “the Administration repeatedly presented intelligence as fact when in reality it was unsubstantiated, contradicted, or even non-existent.”
Hm. Sounds a lot like the current administration.
Any cite for the claim that Obama didn’t see 3% GDP growth?
So he’s right. It wasn’t 3% growth. It was 3.3% and 3.4%.
However:
Of course, much of the blame must be placed at the feet of obstructionist Republicans who voted against economy-boosting measures; and Obama was the Bush Recession.
Wouldn’t a policy of extreme change require an equivalent measure of extreme support? Trump wants to stick his arm down America’s throat, seize the asshole and pull it back out, turning America inside out. Seems to me, even if the legal mechanisms permitted it, that would not be a legitimate use of power without a level of support that Trump did not get.
So, how many are you, do you think? If Il Douche has overwhelming support among the people, why didn’t his vote count reflect that? Do you actually buy that bullshit about millions of “illegal voters”? Haven’t mentioned it yet, far as I can tell, seems like his loss of the popular vote is one of those ugly little facts you don’t want to chat about.
To my mind, an agenda of extreme change has to be legitimized by an overwhelming support of the people, which he does not have. Does that matter to you? He may fairly claim that he won the right to lead, he did not win the right to rule.
I won’t belittle your “puppy” status, my own political views took form about that time. I do remember that I thought that Jim Morrison of the Doors was the poet for our new age. For about two weeks. I got over it.
Remember: young men think old men are fools, old men remember that young men are fools. Don’t tattoo your face, and don’t stick yer dick in the crazy, and you’ll get better.
Peace.
I believe that 63 million supporters would count as “overwhelming”. The man got the most votes of any Republican candidate ever to be nominated for the presidency.
Not a Trump voter (I’m English) but I probably would have voted for him so here’s my two penn’orth.
The strengthening of the border is good, I’m all for tough border controls, without them a country leaves itself open to all sorts of ills and what harms the US usually ends up harming us in the UK. (And I see that illegal immigration across the southern border is 40% down since Trump took office.)
Mending fences with Russia is good for everybody and his tone becoming President makes me hopeful for some kind of detente with that nation.
His action concerning the Dakota Access pipeline is also promising, making me hopeful that most of the needless constraints on industry will be loosened or abolished.
Talk about allowing individual states to decide on bathroom gender issues I have no issue with. Allow the states to decide these things for themselves, it seems to me that’s the inherently democratic road to take. If they take a conservative view on the matter so be it. I’m not seeing how bullying would be any worse for transgenders either way. If transgender boys are going to be bullied when they use the boys’ bathroom it’s likely they’ll be bullied throughout the school, including waylaying them as they come out of the girls’ bathroom. Bullies are bullies, Federal advice notices won’t change that. As for the feelings of the transgenders themselves I guess you have to balance that with the feelings of other bathroom users and decide which matters most. (My own feeling is that it’s the feelings of the transgender that are more important here when balanced against the rather antiquated views of others. But who am I tell individual states which position they should or should not take?)
The things I don’t like? Spicer’s tough talk on marijuana I find disappointing. Trying to turn the clock back is ludicrous and could inflict real harm on people. If Trump really goes through with this then he’s more of an idiot than I thought he was (which is saying something as I already considered him a massive idiot, albeit a useful one.)
I thought Trump’s rhetoric on abortion during the campaign was just that and that once in office he would back away from the extremists in his party. I’m not seeing any evidence of that and it’s worrying.
The general manner of the man I also find disturbing. Don’t get me wrong, I like the man’s bluntness and directness, that’s rare in a politician. But his obsessive tweeting and ludicrous habit of denying obvious facts is cause for concern to say the least. Again, I hoped it would be toned down once he was elected. There was no sign of that at first but the diminution in his Twitter output recently is perhaps a good sign and we just have to hope that he’ll realize how stupid he looks when insisting that day is night.
In sum, I’m in a state of equilibrium about Trump at the moment; a few more tilts too far right and the man is dead to me.
Woooosh
More people, both in the primaries and the general election, voted against him than for him.
He was aided in the primary by the unusually large number of candidates.
Remind me again: what percentage of the population was that? And what percentage of voters?
60% of eligible voters participated in this election. In total, there are 231,556,622, millions of whom did not participate.
63 million over that 231,556,622 is 0.27, or 27% of eligible voters who elected Trump president.
America is a nation of 320 million people, and 242,470,820 adults, but millions of them don’t vote in elections. 63 million is 26% of the adult population.
For some of them, it’s because they’re under 18, for others it’s because they’re currently in prison and can’t vote, or they’re felons who have been released from prison but live in states without felon voting rights.
All in all, I still think it’s impressive. Yes, more people did vote against Trump in Republican primaries than for him, however he still got the most Republican primary votes than any other Republican ever to run for President—13.3 million.
Using St. Louis Fed figures, I see 3.7% average annual growth between mid-2009 and the present. I assume Trump and ckalli1998 erroneously attribute the first half of 2009 to Obama (it should be considered Bush’s) but even then Obama’s average annual gain over eight years was 3.3%.
Anyway I wanted to see ckalli1998’s answer. It sounds like he’s following Steve Miller’s command (or was it Sean Spicer?) to get all news from Trump’s Twitter feed, rather than fact-based sources.
The fact he includes the qualifier “Republican” indicates he knows how emasculating this feeble factoid is. Does he also know the population is rising so absolute numbers necessarily increase? Anyway, Trump’s vote total was surpassed by Obama, Obama, and Clinton.
So explain why that’s significant. I’m sure he got far more votes than Lincoln or FDR. Does that mean he’s better or that there are more voters?
He also set a record in the primaries for the most vote against. Impressive? Or an equally misleading (and pointless)statistic?
I glad we can all agree on who’s to blame for this shit show.
