I wish I could, but my mom has heard time and time again how much I hate turtlenecks of any sort.
Yes, Dermablend is expensive. I don’t think you can buy it at regular drug stores - I’ve only seen it at cosmetics counters in department stores. You’ll need the concealer and setting powder.
Have you tried wearing a turtleneck?
Oh duh, I just noticed the reference to the turtleneck directly above.
How about a scarf?
Ice. Ice helps a lot. I also hate hickeys, and haven’t had one in about five years - but when I did, ice helped.
They’re going down. Not gone yet. I told him he’s being told to leave me be by the dopers, and he’s indignant. He’s all, hey, what about mine. I told him noone could see his if he’s wearing a tee-shirt, and his parents won’t kill him.
Well, I’ve never had to deal with a hickey, but knowing your mother, all I can say is, “Good luck ever seeing ‘that one guy’ ever again.”
I have only ever had one hickey in my life, and I absolutely hated having it. It looked horrible and I felt so cheap. I thought that everyone would be looking at this horrible mark on my neck and I felt very embarassed. I would definitely go with the Dermablend idea. I have heard it is wonderful stuff.
My skin mustn’t be as sensitive or something, because when I got my hickey, I sure felt it being given to me. Sorry, but I don’t understand how you can be so caught up in the moment to not realize that someone is sucking and biting you enough to bruise your skin. Just my 2 cents worth.
Oh I notice. My skin is sensitive, but he does bite/suck hard. That’s kind of the point.
I don’t get nice little hickeys either. I get huge multi-colored splotches all over my skin…
 Antie! YOU have had hickeys? I’m agahst!
Dermablend is less expensive than many top line makeup bottles. I use the straight dermablend makeup, no extra stuff, costs about $20 a tube. Do a google/altavision, whatever search engine you like, search on dermablend and you can see all the various type of product as well as photos of before and after pictures. There is a makeup remover but it wears off after a few days, so you don’t really have to spring for that.
There’s no clinical reason why alcohol would help, but it would be an interesting thing to research. I could see that ice might help if it were applied immediately, but I sure wouldn’t hop out of bed and run to the icemaker.
Thanks for the welcome! No one has welcomed me, or indeed even responded to me personally, so I thought I was being pretty much ignored when I posted.
dudette. I’ve found someone who understands me. Heh. Yeah, it is kind of the point. And ditto on the blotches, too!
But it’s been 2 days of crappy cover-up work, and my mom either hasn’t (and therefore won’t) notice, or refuses to.
…and I’ll definately get the derma-blend, cause I don’t see him stopping the accidental ones anytime soon, and I’m going to be working at a restaurant.
I can’t believe no one’s mentioned toothpaste yet!!!
Spread a little toothpaste over them at night and they will fade much more quickly. It cools them down. Works for spots too but not as well.
It’ll feel a little sticky but it’s worth it!
Welcome, ChrystinP. This is the first thread I think I’ve seen you post on…but then again, I’m a newbie and don’t read all the threads.
I’ve tried this in the past, and it does seem to make them go away more quickly. My understanding is that it has to be the white paste (like regular Crest, for example), not the gel kinds. Why it works, I have no idea. I haven’t had to use this trick for years, though. Nobody gives me hickies anymore.
Maybe someone can ask Unka Cece what the science is behind the toothpaste/hickey thing. I never heard of it. Too old to worry about it now!
You know, I didn’t say this when I read the thread yesterday, but it warrants being mentioned. I figure now you’ve got it under control enough to make light of the situation.
In case your mother does happen to notice? The proper response is, of course, “At least they’re on my NECK!”
I love you all.
I don’t think anyone reads all the threads. That’d be hard.
heh. I have one I could flash her… but we’ll just not mention that one. Phenomenal response though. And I always can make light of the situation. Like when I almost got killed by astroturf yesterday when it flew off the back of a truck on the freeway. Feh!
I’m NOT going to stop leaving hickeys on her. I’m doing my best to stay away from her neck, but apparently it feels REALLY good to do that. And another point: I don’t always realize in the heat of passion that I’m leaving a mark. I try hard not to, and those three I’m (apparently) guilty for I don’t remember leaving.
I will, however, go in for the Dermablend. Those hickeys ARE my fault, intentional or no, and I’m not too keen on my girlfriend getting killed by her mom (or her boss for that matter).
The man speaks.
