It’s not the most comfortable topic for anyone to think about, but I think it’s important to envision the possibility of being attacked by someone for sexual gratification or financial gain even when you don’t live in a ‘sketchy’ area.
Focusing on women, would you comply if a mugger came up to you and asked you for your money or would you try and fight back depending on the perpetrators gender, size, and type of weapons?
If you did comply but the man (or woman) wanted to sexually assault you, would you fight back or just go along with them?
There should be another choice: “I don’t know.” That would be my answer today.
It’s difficult (maybe impossible) to know what you would do in any dangerous, life/safety-threatening situation before it happens. Unless you actually have some kind of serious martial arts/combat/police training that would just kick in reflexively.
For an ordinary citizen who has never encountered violence or even force… I can’t predict what I would do. It would probably depend on the circumstances, whether a weapon was involved, whether I felt my life was truly in danger, how mentally/emotionally strong I was feeling… too many variables to account for outside of the situation.
I dearly hope I never have to find out, and that goes for everyone on this board, male or female, *and all their relations. *Amen.
femmejean - tell me why you want to know, and I’ll consider answering. I politely answered your question in another thread and you couldn’t bothered with the decency of an acknowledgement, so there seems little point in bothering with your endless threads.
It seems to be a default response for victims of sexual assault to completely freeze up, and is often a source of shame and remorse for the victim. I work for a domestic violence and sexual assault shelter, and according to the nurses who perform forensic examinations in the immediate aftermath of sexual assault, one of the most common things they hear is the ‘‘confession’’ that the victim froze up and felt like they couldn’t move. There’s actually a scientific term for this that I forget, during training we saw a demonstration video of this sort of temporary physiological paralysis in an animal during periods of high stress.
And of course one of the most common attacks launched on assault survivors was ''Why didn’t you fight back?" The answer may very well be, ‘‘I was physiologically incapable of doing so.’’
FWIW, I froze up, I hate that I froze up, and I often engage in fantasies of unleashing a flurry of attacks against my abuser, little good it does now. (Or would have done then - he was an experienced martial artist.)
If this is some kind of fetish of yours, as some of the comments here seem to imply, I would advise you to consider when asking questions like these that for many of us, there is nothing theoretical about this, and it’s pretty gross to intentionally get off on the trauma of other people.
Possibly removing any prurient value for the OP, I’ve read that a good idea if possible in the face of potential sexual assault is to go completely limp (maybe not voluntary in the shock of the moment) and to urinate or poop if you can, to make yourself as much of a pain to move and as gross as possible. I think this is probably more practical in the rare situation where someone is attacked by a stranger unexpectedly, but the inclusion of ‘mugger’ in the theme makes me think the idea is a stranger-attack.
Of course, there’s also the possibility your attacker would just murder you in a rage. Sure is fun to contemplate!
