Female equivalent to the prostate?

Well, is there one? And can it give them problems like men tend to have?

I am not an expert, but I am also not trying to be funny. I believe it is what has been called the G spot*.

Many have claimed that the Grafenberg spot is the female equivalent of the prostate, but histologically it has never been demonstrated to the scientific community’s satisfaction as a whole.
Gspot = prostate

Others have claimed that the uterus is the female equivalent. Uterus = prostate

Others state that the prostate has no female equivalent.
No female equavalent to prostate

Personally I think there is something to the idea that the prostate and the G spot (or Skene’s glands) have a common embryologic origin, but there’s not a great deal of science out there to support it. Not that I’ve seen anyway.

Since the prostate gland’s function is to secrete prostatic fluid for the health, benefit, and transportation of sperm cells, no, there isn’t a female equivalent of it.

However, girls have something called the Bartholin’s glands, which also secrete “stuff”.

And yes, your Bartholin’s glands can give you trouble: they can get plugged up, they can get cysts, they can get cancer.

Cecil actually just wrote a column about this. You’ll see it shortly.
