Female nipples

Is the wiring different on women so that they are more turned on then men by having their nipples touched?

Is there a connection sexually, does it have to do with children suckling or is it a cultural/learned behavior?

This might not be the whole reason, but I would start by positing that female nipples are, in general, larger. Dense nerve endings * larger area = greater sensitivity.

I can see your point, but don’t the soles of the feet or the scalp have as many, if not more nerve endings?

Ever see someone’s reaction when you tickle their feet or lightly scratch their scalp? It’s also worth pointing out that the skin on your feet is much thicker, though that varies widely from person to person (a park ranger in the Colorado Mountains would have tougher feet than a female socialite from New York City, in all likelyhood).

I’ve heard that non-traditional sensitive areas aren’t necessarily sexually arousing because most folks just don’t THINK it should be. A lot of the way your wiring works is based on how the software in your head reacts to it.

some “hot spots” are learned, guys like nipples, so girls learn to be aroused from them. this is over and above the other aspects (larger size, nerve endings, different wiring)

I had a girlfriend that loved when I kissed her…hmmm side? kinda between her hip and underarm. why did I start kissing her there? because that spot was just damn sexy on her. I have never had another gf specifically ask to be kissed there.

But in all societies are the female nipples (not breasts) considered sexual? And if so why? For example 100 years ago, in a pygmy village in the middle of the forest, did men suck on the nipple of his female partner? Did the Inuit do it? Actually, primates dont do this do they? So I am assuming it is safe to deduct that it IS a learned response and the female nipple is not any more sensitive than a mans, and it is not connected in anyway to our primal sexual arousal.

Human female nipple stimulation produces oxytocin which produces uterine contractions. Human males have not a uterus.

Cyn, OB/GYN RN

Wow.

Cyn, of all the things Ive learned over the past few weeks as a guest on The Straight Dope (and there have been many) that was the best.

Thanks!

Yah one of the things that some doctors recommend to gravid women wanting to go into labor is nipple massage. Oxytocin is part of the milk letdown response and there is evidence that it actually induces maternal behaviors in female mice (suckling, etc.)

Ed, starting OB/Gyn tomorrow. Mmmm diseased vagina.

Occam’s Razor and all…I think it is more likely that such learning goes the other way. Since many women are aroused by nipple stimulation, their partners have learned to stimulate them in persuit of arousal.

Not really sure if guys care that much…theyre just being nice!
