NoCoolUserName, she used to breathe fire in concert too. Quite a sight, especially in a small venue. No corpse though.
If you want to see a band with a fire-breathing singer, check out Nashville Pussy.

Blondie
Plasmatics
The Creatures (Siouxsie and Budgie’s side project)
Fictionally, The Fabulous Stains
Bratmobile, Catfight!, the Eyeliners, Cake Like (featuring Kerri Kenney of *Reno 911 * fame).
Jack Off Jill might be up your alley, although they’ve got more punk attitude than sound.
In addition to being an incredible band in their own right, Sleater-Kinney seems to have exerted an influence on System of a Down. Take a listen to the first track on Call the Doctor (buy a copy if you don’t have one) and see what you think.
They’re punk now?
Er, they’re fast and young and angry and sloppy? I dunno what official genre they belong to, but they sound pretty punky to me.
The Gits (female fronted)
All-Girl Bands:
7 Year Bitch
Tribe 8
The Leah Quinelle All Stars Featuring Happy
I’d describe Kittie as metal. A lot of the bands posted here I’d call more “rock” (Elastica) or “alternative” (Veruca Salt), but I understand that the dividing lines can be fuzzy.
Oh, I forgot Slant 6.
Sleater-Kinney’s Punk? I only have one of their CDs, and I neglected to put it on iTunes. But they didn’t sound particularly punk-ish to me. I’ll have to give them a listen next time I go home.
Okay, I’ve listened to some samples. I guess they could be Punk.

Yes, L7 does appear in the movie “Serial Mom”, but their name for the movie is Camel Lips.
The Van Gogh-Gogh's Rocklopedia Fakebandica
Well, I thought of and dismissed the Yeah Yeah Yeahs too, but not because there are guys in the group but for the shoehorning thing I mentioned in the OP.
For clarification, girl-fronted bands with guy members are welcome to the list too, as long as the majority of the vocals are by the girl(s).
See, in my mind there’s no way the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s can not be considered Punk.
A recent band with a female singer is Be Your Own Pet. They kinda remind me of the Stooges.
I can’t believe I almost forgot The Pretenders.
Also:
The Soviettes- I don’t know how well known they are outside of Minnesota.
Tsunami Bomb & X
Cub
There are probably plenty, but not many that are/were popular.
The Horrorpops: http://horrorpops.com/
The Runaways (Joan Jett and Lita Ford were in this band): The Runaways | Listen and Stream Free Music, Albums, New Releases, Photos, Videos
Now that I think about it The Horrorpops just has a female lead singer and female dancers, most/half of the band is male.
Tsunami Bomb & X
Exene was the only female in X, and she was the singer. I’m not sure that quite qualifies as a female band. If it does, though, old Siouxsie and the Banshees and The Avengers would certainly count. A very very minor band called The Raunchettes. I’m not sure if Hole or The Breeders would really count as Punk, but they’re certainly in the tradition.
The Pandoras and all of their offshoots

They qualify based on post #9. I know she doesn’t sing lead on every song, but it is probably the majority.
Johnny, L.A.,
Listen to S-K’s first couple of albums, the self titled one, and Call the Doctor. Obviously, it’s not “classic” punk, but it’s right in step with the other great Riot Grrl bands of the time.
Has anyone mentioned the Au Pairs yet? I would also recommend LiLiput (formerly Kleenex), as well as Maximum Joy and ESG (both slightly more post punk).
If anybody browses feminist blogs, Twisty Faster of I Blame the Patriarchy had a kickass band, Johnny Magnet.
