This is the first time hubby and I have dealt with dogs who’s parents weren’t socialized, and it’s interesting. They’re warming up to us, but still pretty shy around people (they were found in the woods about a week ago). They’re about 8 weeks old. They are lots of fun and totally love our adult dog. Any tips on socialization?
Seriously tho, I have no experience on which to make suggestions- just love on 'em & do what you do & I think they’ll get over their shyness. They are cuties!
Its very good of you to take these creatures in and teach them. I suggest that you slowly introduce them to many different people, the more the better! Let everyone know that they are shy, and to approach them slowly. Once they become more comfortable with people, you may want to start taking them out for walks. They also need learn how to interact with other dogs and their people. In my experience, fellow pet-lovers are very understanding if you just come out and say “They’re very shy. You’re welcome to pet them, please just be gentle.”
Just keep bringing people over for visits, and load them with treats. Each time they meet a new person, they get a treat. Pretty soon meeting people will be a fun new game with only positive associations.
They’re gorgeous little puppies. All the best to you!
