Just to be coldly logical about this, why would somebody steal a fetus rather than a newborn? It seems like more work for a less viable infant.
That same thing happened around here, but the pregnant woman was not so lucky…she was killed and her unborn child taken from her body. And then she was buried in the garge, and the baby passed off as the killers own. When the law caught up with her, the killer took her own life, and the baby boy was reunited with his father. The killer’s husband was found, well, “clueless” is a better verdict than “not guilty of involvment”. The killer had struck up a conversation with the victim in the baby department of a store and found out the due date, so she was certain of an almost full-term baby when she abducted the woman a week or so later.
No hospital records, maybe? No feet prints and the like, no official paperwork that the baby was someone else’s.
Happened in Illinois too, almost 10 years ago:
The baby was only 4 days from his due date. It was most likely the case in the story in the OP that the woman was very close to her delivery date as well, for the baby to be doing so comparatively well.
I’m amazed there have been so many cases of this! If i’d seen it as a movie plot I would have thought it was far fetched! Just glad to see Mother has her child back and the kid is healthy. Hope she can get over this. Would be interested in knowing what the perp gets sentenced to for this.
