FF draft opinions needed, (Position.)

For the first time ever I’m in a non-live draft league. So my rankings are going to determine how well I do. There are 6 teams, so it’s probably going to be very tight no matter who I draft, but I’m looking to gain any sort of edge based on how I pick each position. There are 16 total picks for each team.

1= starter (2) = reserve. Team composition is:

QB: 1 (1)
RB: 2 (2)
WR: 2(2)
TE: 1 (1)
K: 1 (1)
DEF: 1 (1)

I’ve made a list of approx 100 overall players/teams I want in order of importance. I’ve also included a sub-list of players that will override set position picks. (I let the ADD take over and made Xcel my bitch. I’ll try to simplify.)

The way I made the main list is used in position choices. For example, round 1 RB. Round 2 RB or WR. (A tossup based on who’s available. Hence the thread.)

Now, let’s say I pick RB for round 1 and WR for round 2. In round one I get Larry Johnson or LT. When round 2 rolls around and I’m looking at WR, what if Larry Johnson is still up for grabs? Do I look to take him or a Johnson or Harrison? I hope you see what I’m getting at here.

It’s a moot point to change strategy based on what other owners do, and I’m probably over-obsessing, but any advantage is welcomed. It’s a money league.

My thinking is setting, based on ranked available

1: RB
2: WR
3:RB
4: WR
5: QB
6: TE
7: DEF
8:K

So going on a list of ranked players, not knowing what each round will bring, what system/order would you submit? Scoring matters, so here it is:

Point System Offense

Rushing Touchdowns=6 pts
Receiving Touchdowns=6pts
10 rushing yds=1pt
10 receiving yds=1pt
20 passing yards=1pt
passing touchdown=3pts
Point after touchdown (kicker)=1pt
2 point conversion=2pts for person who got the conversion
and 1 point for QB if he makes the pass for the conversion
0-29 yd field goal=3pts
30-39 yd field goal=4pts
40-49 yd field goal=5pts
50+ yd field goal=6pts
interception pass= -2pts
lost fumble= -2pts
Point System Defense

defensive touchdown=6pts
safety=2ts
interception=2pts
fumble recovery=2pts
sack=1pt
blocked kick=2pts
Shutout=10 pts
1-6 pts allowed=7pts
7-13 pts allowed=4 pts
14-20 pts allowed=1pt
21-27 pts allowed=0pts
28-34 pts allowed= -1pts
35 + pts allowed= -4pts

Thanks for any advice. And if it appears I have the right idea about ranking and picking based on position, just tell me I’m overthinking it.

You have 16 draft slots. With 6 teams playing, no need to waste high slots on K and DEF. Just about any K or DEF you’re going to get will be good enough under that scoring system.

I cleaned up in an autodraft leage by ranking my fave players as I want, and by ranking position picked as such:

1 - RB
2 - RB
3 - WR
4 - WR
5 - QB
6 - TE
7 - QB
8 - RB
9 - WR
10 - RB
11 - K
12 - TE
13 - DEF
14 - 16 - Whatever you feel is important to cover bye weks. DEF, K, more WRs…

This way, you’re pretty sure of cleaning up on 1st and 2nd tier RBs and WRs. QBs don’t score as high in your scoring system, so you can afford to wait a bit on one and key in on some quality RB/WRs.

Check the depth charts on NFL.com to name rank starting RBs and WRs for your midround picks.

YMMV, but it’s worked well for me this way a couple of years running.

Of course, my primary league is a live draft. Offline. All friends of mine. But for autodrafts, don’t rank the default ways.
