Fictional places you want to stay the F*#$ away from.

Well put.

Another vote for Silent Hill. Let’s add Raccoon City while we’re at it.

Don’t think I’d want to go camping in the Blair Witch woods either.

And there are a couple of European Hostels I’d also like to avoid.

All of these are lousy places for a vacation.

The Hell constructs in Surface Detail.

The world of Idiocracy.

The world of Bertie Wooster.

Forgot – also the world of Soylent Green. That place is a nightmare even without the big reveal.

That’s what we’re escaping from!

What, you thought Heinlein wrote fiction??

Oh, and the world of The Road. Nightmare Fuel! Just shoot me now, thanks.

You win!

68 replies and no one’s mentioned Mos Eisley? Talk about a wretched hive of scum and villainy. Really anywhere on Tatooine seems avoidable at best.

I think I’d feel safer in any Mos Eisley bar than one in what’s left of downtown Detroit or East St. Louis or Bartertown.

Any of the planets in the Vogosphere, I deal with enough bureaucracy as it is. Or is the Vogosphere one planet, I forget? Douglas Adams fans will know.

A pain amplifier.

I don’t think I’d be interested in Beta Colony, either: they’d probably be trying to fix my brain within hours of arrival.

The whole ponyville universe would suck. Unless I could have a black glittery skull tattooed on my ass.

More Spike for me. I definitely want to keep that bad boy busy.

I would like to try being the smartest person for a while. But only as a vacation destination away from being the most moronic.

That horrible slavic country from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. 40 Years later and I am still messed up from that movie.

Omelas. Mainly because I’d probably crack and accept the deal.

Sort of like this? It’s not black, but it seems close…

Close, very close…Now can you make me a Vampire Pony? I still want Spike from Sunnydale really bad.

Evergreen Terrace in Springfield.

Really, there are so many places to avoid. It’s far harder to think of a fictional universe I’d actually want to live in (the Culture universe maybe?).

Places in particular to avoid, that haven’t been mentioned:

  • The Cube.
  • Animal Farm.
  • Castle Dracula.
  • The unnamed (I think) island The Lord of the Flies is set on.
