There is a report of a sign, about 10 feet by 15, on Venice Boulevard, in Culver City, California, that says “Film in Wisconsin”, with a telephone number. The Wisconsin Film Office (where I used to work) is very puzzled by this, as they didn’t sponsor the sign, and they don’t know who did.
Is there anyone in the Los Angeles area who has seen this sign? Can you relay anything else on the sign, including the telephone number?
The latest word is that Venice Blvd. is actually outside Culver City, running parallel to it. So let’s say the billboard in question is on Venice Blvd., near Culver City.
Is the billboard owner identified on the sign? If so, perhaps you can call them and ask who is paying the rent for the sign. If the phone number on the sign isn’t for the real Wisconsin Film Office there is likely a clear case of fraud here and I’m sure the owner would be willing to help.
And sorry, I’m in NorCal, so I’m no help in getting any further details.
Let me make this more clear. We know nothing else about the content of the sign other than it says “Film Wisconsin” and has a telephone number. The person who reported the sign did not copy down the telephone number or anything else about the sign. That is why I am requesting more information.
fiddlesticks, the sign does not say “Wisconsin Film Office”.
I don’t know what intersection the sign is near, but because the caller (mistakenly) believed the sign was in Culver City, I’m guessing it was actually in that section of Venice Blvd. that runs by Culver City.
Venice Blvd. actually does run through Culver City. It appears to be the street on the back side of the Sony Pictures campus as a matter of fact. Yahoo! Maps indicates valid address numbers for both sides of the street, suggesting that Venice does not merly form the northwestern boundary of Culver City.
The Sony location, BTW is on Washington Blvd, between Overland and Hughes. That stretch of Venice Blvd. might be a good place to look.
