Tangentially related but it has always fascinated me how angels ; which in scriptural texts and folk traditions are utterly, vaguely undescribable alien beings that’d fit fine in a Lovecraft book and described as stuff like “flaming wheels spinning within bigger wheels, with eyes all over”, or “fireballs but with four separate faces and twelve wings” ; somehow somewhen turned into “pretty much just pretty blokes. Oh but with wings !”.
