Films That Time Forgot... SDMB Version!

You know how every week on the Onion page they have a new “Film That Time Forgot”? Some worthless piece of entertaining forgettableness…

Well I say we should all recall our favorite Forgotten Films.

I have to go with Young Sherlock Holmes. I actually really like this movie, which deals with… you guessed it, a young version of Sherlock holmes. It includes cults, live boiling, blowguns, fencing, mystery, and best of all Watson hallucinates that he is being attacked by various pastries.

Oh boy, I’m gonna check Amazon and see if this is in print, I think I need a DVD copy if at all possible. Somehow I doubt that it is.

Well anyways, let’s hear it SDMB, what’s your favorite “Film That Time Forgot”?

The Experts

John Travolta, during his long fallow period in between Saturday Night Fever and Pulp Fiction. Two Americans get recruited by the Soviets to hip them to pop culture, in a small town that is dedicated to replicating American culture in the deepest darkest Soviet Union. Goofy, fun, with an insanely hot dance sequence between Travolta and Kelly Preston, and some fun comedy bits, including the great “shirts vs. skins” dialog.

I hate to admit it, but I like this movie.

Two favorites …

The Ruling Class features Peter O’Toole as a British lord with a Jesus complex. The story makes so many interesting turns, especially when he is “cured” and the ending completely blind-sdies you.

The Loved One … billed as “the movie with something to offend everyone.”

I had forgotten the name of the movie, then searched the IMDB and found it. They’re great!

My forgotten movie is Miracle Mile (1989).

Starts out with an interesting premise: a young man in Los Angeles accidentally discovers that World War III is about to break out and he’s the only civilian to know about it. As more people find out that the end of the world is at hand, all hell breaks loose. The movie starts out promising but eventually breaks down into a weird mix of sentimentality and black humor. It does have its funny moments, however:

Wino, as a Soviet missle streaks overhead past him: “That one’s going to fuckin’ Tijuana!” Then another one comes and blows him into oblivion, along with the rest of southern California.

Somehow I found that hilarious at the time (I lived in LA then).

I saw this on cable right after it came out, and haven’t heard anything about it since. But it’s funny, I was just thinking about it the other day and trying to remember the title. Must have made some kind of impression on me at the time.
