Yes! I always imagined an episode about Scott and Steve, the two redshirts the Losties were always confusing until Scott died (or was it Steve?). Titled of course “Scott and Steve are Dead”…
snow White from the dwarves’ POV
The Day the Earth Stood Still as told my Gort.
For that matter, Forbidden Planet as told by Robby.
Several James Bond movies from the point of view of Ernst Stavro Blofeld.
*Jaws, *from the shark’s POV.
*King Kong, *from Kong’s POV.
*The Wizard of Oz, *from Toto’s POV.
In 1976, when the deLaurentiis version of King Kong came out, someone wrote a book called My Story, as by King Kong
You get a little of that in the first Austin Powers movie - we see the wife and child of one henchman being notified of his death, and another (killed by a mutated sea bass) has a group of friends awaiting his arrival to his bachelor’s party when they learn the news.
I’ve thought it might be interesting to see a Fail Safe remake…from the Soviet POV. Exact same story and dialogue (well, dialogue the Russians would have had a chance to hear, over the hotlines and whatnot), but we get to see the other side.
Even aside from a mere novelty angle, it might bring up some interesting story possibilities—I remember a few people talking here, over the years, that—
the US nuking New York in an act of good faith/contrition might not just have been a “moral” act, or one to head off WWIII, but also a way of keeping from keeping the Russians from instantly gaining political supremacy without firing a shot. I mean, if they merely play up their victim card for all it’s worth—ten million people dead in one night would go a long way—they could get world opinion on their side against the damned imperialists, and start making big disarmament demands…
A Soviet Groeteschele might suggest that that was worth a city.
Grosse Point Blank is a little like that. Blank was living in a James Bond universe, though as a high level assassin rather than a mere feckless henchman. He was like one of the guys they’d send to kill Bond in the first reel.
I would like to see Alan Dean Foster’s Nor Crystal Tears filmed. It is a first contact story entirely from the “aliens” point of view. The aliens in this case are an insect race who communicate in whistles and clicks so the entire film would have subtitles and the audience would have to empathize with insect protagonists. I think with modern special effects they could pull it off and at least to my knowledge nothing like it has been attempted. I think it would be a very memorable film.
When I left Cloverfield, I thought a great sequel would be to have a “normal” (non shaky camera) film from the military POV, specifically the military guy that escorts the main characters from the first film out the exit. I was thinking that scene would be a great bridge between the two films. Further, I thought an action movie with a lot of the little ones could be good action or horror, depending on how you wanted it.
I like the idea of a Sauron from his perspective especially if his perspective is not evil or a more long term idea to help people. I don’t need a perspective on evil people just because it’s not done often!
Star Wars from R2-D2’s perspective would be interesting! In a nice twist, an author I know was writing quick stories to give a familiar story a twist ending. In this one, she made it as if it had been the Emperor’s destiny to bring balance to the force and he was smiling as he died, knowing he had achieved this.
LOVE the idea of Quantum Leap without Sam OR Al! That could be really cool!
A movie from Blofeld’s POV could be interesting. As I said above about Sauron, the idea is good but I don’t want to watch a bad guy be bad. I want to watch why he thinks he isn’t bad or give a twist to what we thought we knew about a characters. X-Files Memoirs of a CSM is a good example of this. Or, a bad guy going for redemption (Xena or Angel) and how tough it is when you have to overcome your old reputation. So, finding out something about Blofeld that’s more than him being the bad guy.
I would love to see a Dr Who episode from the Master’s POV. There were hints with the new one that there is some external motivation for what he is doing. Maybe he’s the ultimate tool of the Black Guardian?
I know so much about Roman history that it could be interesting to see a culture and how it exists and then what the Romans are trying to do to it. Or, in some cases, what the Romans don’t do to it if the culture follows the rules.
Then, there are the movies where this is easy to guess. Unforgiven, which I think is a GREAT movie, shows us Hackman’s character as well as Eastwood’s. We could maybe get a bit more about how Hackman had to be as violent as those he was fighting but I think it’s there.
Great topic! Thanks!

Is that in a special edition? I’ve seen the first Austin Powers movie several times and don’t remember the scenes you are describing.
Don’t you love it when a movie completely changes over time?
The perfect example of this that we did see (and ended up arguably being the finest episode ever done) was Doctor Who “Blink”, told from Sally Sparrow’s perspective.
Also “Love and Monsters”, featuring the exploits of the ill-fated LINDA and Peter Kay as the Absorbatron…Absorbalov…alien thing. The Doctor makes a few appearances and then turns up at the end.
Equus done a la Lion King from the horsie’s perspective.
I would love to read a Harry Potter book written from the perspective of a student in a different house. Slythrin obviously would be interesting, and would provide a totally different point of view of the school (including the other side of Snape), but I would LOVE to see the Ravenclaw’s perspective, since those students seemed to be in their own little world.
I’m sure there’s plenty of fan fiction which already covers this, but I’d like to see it penned from Rowling herself.
Yes! This one is brilliant!

I would like to see a Star Wars movie done from Piett’s point of view. He was the star destroyer captain who got promoted to admiral after his boss was strangled by Vader at the beginning of The Empire Strikes Back. And who did not get strangled by Vader at the end of The Empire Strikes Back.
I have often wanted to see two movies, filmed simultaneously with the same cast and the same script, in which the hero of one is the villain of the other. For example, one would be about a noble cop versus an evil criminal. The other would be about a Robin Hood-style outlaw versus a corrupt cop. Which is the hero, and which is the villain, would depend on how the footage was edited (and the background music).
