Films you like about subjects you dislike.

I very much dislike boxing. I would rather turn the TV off than watch a boxing match or anything to do with it. Two blokes in shorts hitting eachother does not appeal to me.
And yet: I Love the rocky films. Even the new one: Balboa.

They inspire me, make me feel like going out for a run with a tyre tied to my waist, or lift weights, or do some training of some kind. I love the emotion, the pace, the spirit of the films.

Do you have a film or films you love which is about a subject you dislike or hate?

I could care less about baseball or any other sport, but I liked Bull Durham.

Chicago. I don’t care for musicals, for dancing, or for prisons, but it was a great movie.

I don’t much care for paedophilia  , but Happiness was a good movie.

While movies like Rocky, Rocky Balboa, Bull Durham, etc. aren’t really about boxing, baseball, or whatever sport happens to be in the movie. For example the original Rocky was about a nearly over the hill loser who was provided with a golden opportunity. Knowing that he couldn’t beat Apollo Creed, Rocky simply decided that he would do the best he could and go the distance, at least scoring a moral victory for himself. You could use the same storyline in many other settings and it’d be just as powerful.

I don’t care for quack conspiracy theories, but I enjoy watching Stone’s “JFK” quite a bit. Patent nonsense, but entertaining.

I have a soft spot for sports movies despit the only sport I have even the vaguest interest in is choreographed play-fighting.

I find boxing incredibly boring, but I liked the first Rocky and loved Cinderella Man.

I’m not terribly fond of horses or having people shoot at me, but I do love movie westerns.

Did you see Cinderella Man? I don’t care for boxing either, but I loved this movie.

I find the typical Adam Sandler movie borderline unwatchable, but I very much enjoyed Punch-Drunk Love as an examination of how Sandler’s manchild persona would actually function in the real world.

I have zero interest in WWE wrestling, but Beyond the Mat was a riveting, entertaining, and at times moving behind-the-scenes documentary.

Thinly-repressed male homosexuals are not high on my list of interests, yet I find Top Gun and 300 eminently watchable.

I find all things football as boring as watching paint dry, yet Rudy, is one of my favorite movies.

Probubly for the reason mentioned by MGibson.

I find Howard Stern to be very boorish and not entertaining with his normal show, but Private Parts is really an awesome movie, and not just because of Pig Vomit.

I’m not a sports fan, but the “Major League” movies are quite funny.
