Final Cut Pro 3 problem.

I’m editing. The default setting for duration of still images is ten seconds. I want it to be five. I’ve got hundreds of images to use, and cannot imagine slicing each one manually.

I checked the Help tab. it told me to go into Preferences, into General, and re-set the duration in that specific line to 00:05:00, and hit Ok.

I did just this. Nothing changed at all. I figured the ones I had already dragged into the edit might not magically change, but all of the still images not yet touched are still at ten seconds.

I tried saving all and leaving the software and re-launching. No dice.

Any ideas? This is making me miserable.

I haven’t used v3 yet, but my WAG would be that the duration of a still image is set when you import it, so you might need to re-import the stills.
You should be able to drag-select all the stills and adjust all the durations at once.

Both good thoughts. I tried highlighting and then altering the rate to 5 seconds. No change. Of course I have all of the JPEG images in a folder on my desktop. I’ll try deleting a set, and setting it to 5 seconds, and re-importing them. If that works, it’ll be what, 10 minutes wasted to re-import? No biggie. Be right back.

Well. Sonofabitch. That was it. I have to set the duration default before importing. Thanks so much- the Help instruction didn’t mention that, and so I believed that I could alter it after importing and move on from there.

I appreciate the help !!

Boom, baby!

Same thing in Adobe Premiere. And I had a similar journey of discovery to find that out, too.
