Final Jeopardy: LM Alcott

Could the answer to this Final Jeopardy be any more obvious? This is like Kiddie Jeopardy.

It was like a low-level clue in the first round.

Pretty easy, and I don’t read novels.

Did anyone else catch the clue with the mistake yesterday? Electric eels are not marine creatures.

It took me a moment to get the Final Jeopardy tonight. The first thing that popped into my head was jane Austen, but the category was American Authors, so I knew that was wrong. Then I thought it might be Margaret Mitchell, for writing Gone With the Wind, but that didn’t seem right. Then I remembered Little Women was about a group of sisters, and I was pretty sure that was by Alcott. So I got there in the end, and was reasonably confident, but it wasn’t ridiculously obvious.

Players make their FJ wagers based on the category, before they’ve seen the clue. Having an occasional easy clue might lull future players into making riskier bets in categories they’re not super confident in.

That’s a great point. There are many factors in FJ, and the relative difficulty of the question is only a part of it.

Ignorance Fought! I didn’t know that.

Come to think of it, I also assumed “marine” meant “wet” - never noticed it meant “oceanic.” Double Ignorance Fought in one post.

The contestant also just said “What are eels?” Electric eels, despite the name, are not true eels.

The current Jeopardy! season is really easy. The questions are on a level with the Teen Tournament, but answered by adults. I don’t know if it’s been dumbed down on purpose or if the writers are lazy.

That’s exactly how Mrs. Cretin and I see it too.

I haven’t noticed it to be much easier, but since there’s a smaller candidate pool to pull from they might have had to lower their standards.
