Cubs have opened. And after 2 pitches Soriano got his first homer, the Cubs got their first run and my fantasy pitcher took his first lump. And after 6 pitches Fukudome has continued his legacy of swinging the bat like a 8 year old girl.
I was hoping Teix could be the hero there.
Woohoo! The Orioles lead the AL East! Take a good look folks, because it will probably be the last time all season.
The game was, in some ways, typical of what Orioles fans can expect all season—lots of hits made, and lots of hits conceded. Problem is, this was with the team’s best starter or the mound; it’s only going to get worse from here on, and the offense won’t be able to put up 10 runs every day.
At least Cesar Izturis got his home run out of the way for the season.
Well, the Blue Jays are making a liar of me so far; I said they couldn’t hit and they just tore Justin Verlander apart. 9-1 after four innings.
Verlander just did not have his release point and that happens to a pitch sometimes. What I’m really intrigued with is the awful defense of Magglio Ordonez. Wow, he looks bad out there.
Opening Day in St. Louis is tomorrow, right? I can’t wait to see the new bullpen. They can’t blow nearly as many saves as last year. Yep, 2009 is gonna be a good year, and I can’t wait till Opening Day, Tuesday April 7!
Hey, remember when we won like 10 in a row to start a season and we ended up with jack squat? This is Cleveland, baby - have heart!!
Although I am deeply saddened by the temporary loss of my little Jamie Caroll. I should send him a get well soon card with a sad puppydog on it.
I also predict Cliff will miss his next start. Getting beaned in the throwing elbow is nothing to scoff at, son.
The Cubs won 4-2, for the first of their 173 wins this year (162-0 in the regular season and 11-0 in the playoffs).
Sabathia gets off to a bad start for the second year in a row. I’m quite sure he was glad he wasn’t at Yankee Stadium today.
The D-backs get a win in a slugfest with Colorado. Brandon Webb wasn’t good at all with 6 runs in 4 innings. He’s looking a lot that the Webb that helped choke away the D-backs first place late last year.
Watching Gregg close reminded me a whole lot of the Borowski era.
shudder
So yesterday was a Mulligan, right?
Verlander got creamed yesterday. He is becoming a mystery.
Well the Rockies O looks like it isn’t going to start off as crappy as last year. But holy crap this bullpen doesn’t inspire confidence. Looks like a bunch of guys they grabbed out of the parking lot. Could be a lot of ugly finishes this year.
We didn’t get to play yesterday, but at least the Yankees got whipped and are, for at least a day, in last place. So we’ve got that going for us.
Sigh.
Don’t worry about Sabathia–he’s notorious for slow starts. Yanks clinch division in late September with CC on the mound pitching a two-hit shutout.
AL East: Yankees
AL Central: Kansas City
AL West: Oakland
NL East: Mets
NL Central: Cubs
NL West: San Francisco
AL Wildcard: Boston or Cleveland
NL Wildcard: Florida or Arizona
AL Champion: Oakland
NL Champion: Mets
World Series champion: Mets
Why Oakland? This is the 20th anniversary of the World Series earthquake, and I just have a gut feeling that they’ll make it solely on that. Unscientific, I know, but strange things like that happen. I’m confident enough that I went to the sportsbook yesterday and put $20 on the A’s to win the AL.
Another reason I’m rooting for the A’s: I was checking ticket prices for several teams trying to plan a vacation this year. Average ticket price for my beloved Yankees at the new Stadium: $72! TOP ticket price at McAfee: $55! You guys are so lucky, and I’ll see you in August!
I like Atlanta this year, and they’ll contend for most of the season, but I predict a bad September for them. Seattle could surprise some people, and I think they’ll finish second in the AL West.
Heh heh.
There’s no mystery there - they worked him too much from the jump from the minors to the bigs. He hung in there in '07, but couldn’t keep up with the fatigue to his arm after that.
I think most of us are wondering “why Kansas City?”! I’m a Royals fan, but don’t see it this year. Too many question marks. This team isn’t the Rays of 2008 - they’re more the Rays of 2006.
So any iphone owners out there? I got MLB At Bat last year, and really liked it. They raised the price to $9.99 this year, but decided for the full year, I’d get it.
Amazing. Simply amazing. I’m currently listening to the Royals radio broadcast and watching the gameday details, which show all pitches, their location, their type (slider, fastball, curve, etc.). There are videos for notable plays (they max out at about 5, and there are usually 3 or 4, depending). When the 3.0 software comes out, they’re supposed to start streaming the games. I love it, and can’t recommend it enough.
I guarantee if this comes to fruition that a large percentage of the A’s grow comical mustaches.
My, Oh My! Griffey has such a knack for hitting those homeruns in big games. Welcome back Kid!
Quite a scare with Felix, but he looks like he’ll be okay.
