Verlander didn’t pitch all that badly last year, though. His ERA was up but a lot of that was just a difference in luck between 2007 and 2008. Still struck out a lot of guys, didn’t give up a lot of homers.
I do agree that may have worked him too hard but I’m not totally convinced - yet - that he’s hurt.
Well, that sucked. Royals up 2-1 going into the bottom of the 8th, brilliant performance by Gil Meche, and Kyle Farnsworthless comes in and blows it with a 3-run homer.
I hope we don’t have to suffer through too many of these before the Royals brass realized that he can’t pitch.
I loved Pedroia starting the season in style, and Tek’s homer made the crowd go crazy. Becket looked solid, Okajima not so much, Pap looked strong. Lowell and Papi both looked like they were struggling a bit.
Brandon Morrow didn’t have a stellar debut at closer for the M’s. Will this create a closer controversy between him and Batista? Will the M’s be good enough for it to matter? Their offense has been okay the first two games and that is without Ichiro.
I like this Florida Marlins team, but their attendance is pathetic. Will a new stadium really get anyone to support that team? It is pathetic when you have to depend on the other team to draw fans.
Impressive game by Josh Johnson with 8 strikeouts.
Emilio Bonifacio has started the season hot including an inside the park home run on Monday and he almost did it again on Tuesday. Why didn’t I pick him up in my fantasy leagues?
Cantu batting right after Ramirez seems to work.
The D-backs wasted a good performance by Dan Haren last night.
The A’s looked decent against the Angles last night as well. The Angels have to be careful they don’t let Oakland or Texas get too far ahead in the standings early in the season until they get their pitching back.
The D-backs are again stinking it up against the Rockies today. The D-backs have almost all of their April games at home this year and they need to take advantage of this. Do they they really think they’ll do better against the Rockies if they’re playing them at Coors Field? We need to take at least 2 out of three against the Dodgers this weekend and Brandon Webb needs to get healthy in a hurry
The Phillies. Time to shake off that World Series hangover and get back to work. You can’t give away games to NL East teams. These games count as much as those in September. Joe Blanton, you’re not pitching for the A’s. You need to show up to win. Jimmy Rollins 1 for for 9 isn’t going to work in the leadoff spot.
The Florida Marlins are an impressive team. However, don’t count on your luck, Matt Lindstrom. Uggla loaded the bases with an error trying to be a hero and he allowede Adam Dunn to come up as the go ahead run at bat with only one out. You’ve got to step up a bit. Don’t be this year’s Gagne. Still, an impressive sweep by the Marlins and I’ll be watching the series against the Mets this weekend. Taking 2 out of 3 against the Mets would be a good way to start this season.
Talk about a cross post! I’m watching the Phillies on my MLB TV on my laptop and the D-backs on my regular tv. I turned the sound down on my laptop as the Phillies seemed to be out of it and wrote a rant about the Phillies in another post. Time to turn up the sound on the Phillies game and put the D-backs to bed for this game.
I wish the Cards could have done better than a split against the Pirates, but otherwise all is right with the world today. Carpenter gave up 2 walks, 1 hit, and 0 earned runs in 7 innings. Seeing that just makes my day.
After taking the first two against the Yankees, the Orioles today provided a more realistic sense of what the rest of their season will probably look like. Guthrie pitched pretty well on opening day, and Uehara gave O’s fans some cause for hope with his performance yesterday, but apart from that the whole pitching situation is incredibly dire.
The Yanks got a pretty decent start from AJ Burnett, who gave up 7 hits and 2 runs over five and a third innings. And Sabathia and Wang are going to be better, over the rest of the season, than they were in their first starts.
In much more sombre news, Angels pitcher Rick Adenhart was killed in a car crash, along with two others, by a guy who ran a red light while driving under the influence of alcohol, and who should not have been driving at all after having his license suspended for previous DUI infractions. Hope they throw the book at the asshole.
Can’t complain about the Jays taking 3 out of 4 to start the season.
With regards to Nick (not Rick) Adenhart, it’s a tragedy beyond description, and it’s high time we as a society started REALLY punishing drunk driving. It’s beyond ridiculous. First offense, go to prison. Kill someone, it’s second degree murder, not “manslaughter.”
Yay for my Rockies. They had a big mental block winning at Arizona, and they pulled off a winning series there first of the year, with two very good pitching performance.
