Finally Baseball is here! 2009 Edition, (April thread)

Yeah, nothing like ruining a housewarming party.

It’s really too bad that they blew out Marcum and McGowan overworking them in a meaningless season. The Jays’ hitters aren’t this good, but Lind and Snider have improved the offence and I think the Jays would be an interesting team with their full staff.

I’m watching today’s Indians/Yankees game on mlb.com’s HD video service. Interesting that the feed for the Indians, from STO-HD, has no announcers. Makes it a bit interesting. Anyone know if it is being broadcast this way on purpose, or is it a glitch with the online broadcast and the telecast has regular announcers?

Call me. I’ll put the phone in front of the radio

Anything is better than listening to the Yankees announcers.

I hope you got him on the phone in time for those back-to-back HRs. :stuck_out_tongue:

Yankee guys are only second worse to the ChiSox guys. I was even rooting for the Sox last night and I still wanted to rip my ears off.

[Way Off Topic] Fear the Turtle, what does your username mean?[/Hijack]

Sloppy game, but the Yanks beat Cleveland for their first win in their new big-fucking-deal stadium. Jeter homered to put them ahead in the 8th and Mo got out of trouble and got the save.

Affirmative. Class of '86

I’d have gotten it right away if it was “Fear the Terrapin”.

Bit of a let down. I was kind of hoping that you’d played to much Alterac Valley in World of Warcraft and grew to hate it whenever the Horde would use a turtle* strategy.
*Turtle is essentially a war of attrition sort of thing where they sit back and defend, with the occasional probing counterattack. It’s a decent strategy for them, but very frustrating for the Alliance, who typically do best in a sprint and often lack the discipline to win a slow fight.

I just looked at the weekend match-ups. Sunday: Burnett vs. <snicker> Pavano. I mean, he owes the Yankees at least one win, doesn’t he?

I so want to see the Yanks light him up early for about 8 earned runs. I have rarely hated a player as much as I hate that bum.

Today was good, very good. Captain Clutch came through again. He had the GWRBI in the last 3 wins.

I hate that dirty sumbitch. He gives me the red ass.

Cubs come from behind to beat Cardinals, 8-7, making the series 1-1. Still, not bad considering it was Carlos Zambrano vs. a guy who hasn’t pitched in the major leagues before. This time it was the Cards’ bullpen that let them down.

This could be a really interesting year for the Cards-Cubs rivalry.

Haven’t you heard? There’s no such thing as clutch. Statistically.

I don’t know that Marcum was overworked. He never threw more than 114 pitches in any start. He was never used on short rest. He threw just 151 innings.

McGowan once threw 125 but averaged just 94.

I mean, they’re not really kids anymore - Marcum was 27, McGowan 26. You have to see at some point if they can pitch like a real starter.

Oh, I’ve heard, but they have yet to convince me.

Yeah, as far as losses go, it wasn’t too painful. Ludwick is off to a running start, eh? But what’s up with Ankiel? I know it’s early, but he’s hitting like .180.

As I said upthread, I would be delighted if the Cards come away with a split. Showing they can keep pace with the Cubs makes this summer a lot more fun.
