finally, I can play GTA IV on my PC. but a few niggling things still niggle...

Finally, possibly due to the fact I am now running windows 7, GTA IV actually runs smoothly and crash-free on my PC. It is playable.

So now that I am actually playing the game there is more time for this thing it does to drive me insane - namely the re-adjusting of the camera angle over the car to the too-low-down default level (same on close and far views). I can use the mouse to correct it to a point where I can actually see where I am going, but after a few seconds the game moves it back. I have to keep moving the mouse slightly to stop the game correcting it.

Any one know how to stop it doing this?

On another note, the second time I played the game windows live updated it. Since the update all tree shadows have flashed like crazy. The only way to stop this is to play in single GPU mode (I have a GTX 295 which is multi-gpu on one card) but this reduces the game to pre-windows 7 horribleness (bad framerate and huge delay on mouse movements)

Anyone know how to solve that?
I’ve googled both problems (without much success) but was hoping a doper who owns the game could provide some fresh/up-to-date info on these things.

“v” adjusts the camera. There are three view distances, then the “alternative” cameras. I like the farthest one. It does get a little closer, especially when you are up against a wall or something, but I don’t notice it adjust back as much as you say.

Play with the settings for shadows. They are rather ugly on lower settings, but I didn’t have flickering on my previous video card.

You might want to try a texture pack and use the shadow tweak: like this one. I don’t specifically recommend it but I’ve heard good things about it. Not sure if that’s the latest version.
