Yeah, it’d be pretty damn difficult to make money on that hand - the only hand that would possibly give you action would be a non-face card of clubs, and you can’t be too confidant with that. That’s pretty cool though, I’ve never even seen a royal flush before.

It’s acually the third one I’ve hit since I started playing online about a year and a half ago. The others were one in a play money game and one in a tournament. The site used to offer a bonus for royal flushes hit in cash games but they discontinued them a few months ago.

I hate Hollywood poker, because James Woods is a tool.

But I understand you have a Mac.

BTW, two people called your river bet… better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

The other night I flopped the nut straight flush with J9s. Minbet call, minbet call, minbet minraise call.

You did better than I.

Apparently I posted this in the HP forum too (no memory whatsoever of doing it; maybe playing while drunk is a bad idea after all). Left off the “cheap bastards” remark. One of the moderators emailed me and they’re going to send me a t-shirt. Not as cool as the 100xBB bonus they used to offer, but still a nice gesture.

Does it say “I made a royal flush and all I got was this lousy T-shirt(and
$18)”?

I entered a $5+.50 and won $10.00! yay me!
what killed me and doomed me to 3rd was a beauty 3Q against an open ended straight ALL IN - and guess what the river was?

The only time in my life I ever saw a royal flush in front of me was my first time at the casino. I was playing quarter video poker and hit it for $1000. I’ve also been at a couple tables of Fortune Pai-Gow where other players have hit it and I’ve gotten $50 for the envy bonus. Never made one in real poker though.

I’ve had about a dozen in the last year or so, but I play 12 hours a day.

Funniest was when the RF showed up on the board and I went all in. Dude folded! :wally

Heh

linky

Yep. I won $200. And deserved every penny of it.

No arguments here, buddy. More power to ye.

I find that when I play drunk I get more aggressive, and it pays off, to an extent.

When I play high, however, I get weak-tight and it costs me.

Same here. I used to never drink when I played. Even when I was out playing freebie points tourneys at the local bars I never drank. And I never mean to play drunk. I get in from drinking and I’m not ready for bed, and I end up at the computer. I’ve only ever had one really bad drunk session, and AFAIK it had nothing to do with being drunk. Well, nothing to do with my being drunk; I can’t imagine many other excuses for the terrible play of a couple of my opponents. The only time it’s been an actual problem was when I emptied an account and had no memory of even playing. Fortunately I had less than $10 in the account at the time. The site sent me the starting hands of the tournaments I played and I was actually doing well despite being zombified by alcohol until the inevitble suckouts.

I play 6-8 hours a day, have played for years, but I’ve only hit a couple straight flushes, and I’ve seen maybe three royals. I’d say I should double my time to witness your results, but the last time I played that much I ended up with my brains dribbling out my ears.

Congrats, Otto. And anyrose for placing in the $5.50, too.

She sent me a baseball cap instead of a shirt. Dammit. Baseball caps never fit me. “One size fits all” is a big lie.

At least you got something, I always thought for the bonuses to kick in you had to have in play both your hole cards. That’s the way it is for most bad beats and royals in live/ and internet places I have played in the past.

I entered a $2.50 twenty person tourny last night and came in first. Won myself $21.50 (the pot was $24, so minus my entry fee is $21.50.)

The way I won was amazing, though. Second to last hand, and I had 2 5, and the big blind. Down to just me and another guy. He calls, I check, the flop comes out, and I get a 4 and a 6. Hey, all I need is a 3 and I have a straight, but odds are he’ll bet and I’ll be forced to fold. Well, I check, and he follows. Noting for me on the turn (I think it was a ten or something) so I check again, as does he. The river comes up…and it’s a 3! Well, I says to myself, time to bet. The blinds are up to 100/200, and I bet 400. He responds by raising to about half his pot (~$2000.) I call (at this point I have several thousand more than him.) We show our cards…he had pocket 3’s, so I stole the pot from his three of a kind. He might have been pissed about the “idiot” who stayed in waiting for the straight draw, but he never bet, so why wouldn’t I stay in?

The next hand, I have little blind and get dealt a J 9. I call the $100, he checks, we get out flop. In it is a K and a 10. Hey, close to last time, just give me a Q and I’m sitting pretty. Well, he checks, so do I, and on the turn, a Q! Hooray for me! I bet small, because if I go in big he might fold, and I want to milk him for more cash (i think I bet $400 again.) He calls and we get the river, and it’s another Q. Well, unless it was an A I couldn’t improve my hand, but I have a decent straight, so I bet $800, and he responds by gonig all in (about $2500 total.) I call, and we show our cards. Me with my straight to the K, and him…with his three of a kind Q.

Ouch. I felt so sorry for the guy having his trips twice in a row be his downfall, but then I realized he still won $12, so he couldn’t really complain all that much.

everyone in this thread should come play tuesday night in ArchitectChore’s game

I’ve only played online or in home games so I know nothing about how casinos work their jackpots. But when HP had royal flush bonuses the rules were that there had to have been a rake from at least one of the last five hands and that the RF had to involve at least one hole card (so that they wouldn’t have to pay everyone at the table if a RF hit the board). A dispute over a RF bonus was actually half of what led me to stop playing on PokerRoom. Not one of mine, of course, but they tried to screw a guy out of half of his bonus, going so far as to change the wording of the RF bonus page after the fact and pointing to it as justification. I figured if they were willing to treat someone who routinely played $100/$100 NL then they weren’t going to be concerned about screwing over a low-level player like me.
