Finally! Morrissey recording a new album

While nothing could replace The Smiths, I’ve liked a lot of Morrissey’s solo work.

I wonder how the new album will sound? Of all his solo albums, I rather liked Vauxhall and I the best, though you can find at least a few good songs on his other albums, including Maladjusted (the most “recent” album).

YESS!!
I was just thinking the other day, as I was listening to The Smiths’ Singles, “Wonder whatever happened to Morrissey?”

Oh dear God! The Horror! That’s like announcing the Cthulthu is going to rip me open and eat my intestines like pasta. I’ll have to crush every radio receiving device in my house and car just to preclude any possibility that I might hear it and thus be forced to chew my own ears off to survive.

Well, I guess we know who won’t be buying a copy!

Exactly the same as all his other stuff I’d say

Being an old smiths fan, I’ll be interested in hearing it but I really can’t imagine he’s got much more to say that he hasn’t already said. I hope that’s not the case though.

I know it’s terrible, but I had assumed Morrissey killed himself.

Glad to hear it ain’t so.

That made me laugh so hard I snorted.

I hope Morrissey explores his angry side – there’s a “new” song floating around the ether called “Irish Blood, English Heart” which is quite snarly and quite good. As cute as his “Satan rejected my soul” moments are, he needs to change his black clothes for something brighter.

I didn’t know that Morrissey was actually played on the radio. What was his most popular radio hit, does anyone know?

“Every Day Is Like Sunday” and “The More You Ignore Me, the Closer I Get” were pretty big hits (relatively speaking, I guess).

I think gallows fodder is probably right about “The More You Ignore Me…” Years ago, I was in a movie theater and they played music before the previews - this was in the days before they ran 12 different commerials before the trailers - and they played “Tomorrow.” I was thrilled!

I personally can’t wait for the new album. I saw him live a little less than three years ago, and it was great. Any news on a release date or title yet?

I don’t think they’ve set a release date or a title yet. It sounds like he’s just started recording it.

I’d agree that “The More You Ignore Me” was probably his most popular radio hit, at least States-side. I liked “Everyday is Like Sunday” better.

Incidentally, I saw Morrissey on Craig Kilborn’s show just a few months ago, and on Craig’s request he performed “Every Day Is Like Sunday.” I was ecstatic just to see him on the show–after Maladjusted, I’d thought he’d pretty much dropped out and retired. I don’t remember him saying anything about a new album then.

I saw that too, he was on two nights in a row. On Thursday, he did a new song IIRC the title was something like “First in the Gang to Die” but I could be way off there. On Friday he did “Everday…” Good stuff all around. I don’t think he mentioned a new album either on Kilborn, but I’m pretty sure he said something about having new songs and no contract.

He was on twice? Shoot, I must have missed the first show–I usually can’t stay up late enough to watch Kilborn (except, apparently, on a Friday night). I hope they’ll repeat it (if they haven’t already).

Anyway, it’s good to see he hasn’t disappeared, or killed himself.

There was a documentary called “The importance of being Morrissey” on UK TV Last night. Showed loads of old clips, him living in L.A. etc.

Theres a song called “first of the gang to die” (or similar) knocking about on the internet.
