Were you shooting for ‘penance’ and ‘appeal’ in that sentence?
No, I’m sure he meant “pennants”, as in the ones waved by Red Sox fans. The other word I’m pretty sure is supposed to be “rappel”, i.e. “rappel directly to God” since humanity resides on a high tall cliff way above God who dwells in the Deep Dark Abyss, and it’s the fastest way to reach Him.
Okay, I’ll bite. How did you conclude that the 10 commandments were created by demons and/or demon worshippers?
this is one of those times when this sentence makes things worse.
This poll needs an option for “What the hell is wrong with you?”
It really depends on if you’re in the city or country, and if she cries out or not. Also, is this person a virgin and single? If so and you have a few sheckles of silver, you might be in luck.
So what if while performing their moral duty to release the victim,
he fights off the kidnapper. After a half hour struggle, the kidnapper is dead, and the victim is free ,and police and ambulance are on the way. As he is lying down to have a rest, having fullfilled his moral duty, she is so happy she wants to reward him for the fight… and so jumps on him… obviously she is offering to sex.
Is he morally bound to stop it ?
Legality can get in the way of morality. This is not designed to be one of those situation, but legality does often cause conflicts.
All I was trying to say is that there would have to be some extremely odd circumstances where I wouldn’t immediately untie them. I have no idea what “dangerous” or “just committed a crime” would look like (if there is such a “look” to begin with).
The law does not bring life. It is defined as the law of sin and death in Ro 8:2. Sin and death are of the satanic kingdom.
It was created by ruling authorities, not necessarily demons. ‘Ordained through angels.’ is one biblical take (Gal 3:19). Demons certainly act to enforce the law and punishment however.
Satan himself is often taken as a prosecutor before the court of God, Satan would be arguing violations of the law to hold onto his right to inflict pain on the person who is under the law.
The overcoming of Christ removed the penalty from the law, therefor Satan can charge violations, yet there is nothing he can enforce as there is no longer a penalty. Yet Satan can have the person still believe they are under the penalty and accept punishment. Which is a little outside the scope of your question but goes into the motive for the law - why Satan wants it.
The law conflicts with morality, it conflicts with living by love. If Satan can have people live under the law, then they are hindered from living by Love. It stops the flow of good will, not all the time, but enough to stop humanity from progressing to a truly loving society.
Fantasies aside, it’s a VERY creepy situation.
There was a story given in one of my favorite magazines, Weird New Jersey. All such stories purport to be true, but you have to be skeptical of a lot of them. In this case, it doesn’t matter if it’s true or not, for purposes of demonstrating creepiness.
the writer claims that, while hiking through a wooded area in NJ*, they came upon a guy tied to a tree. He wasn’t naked, but he was half-naked (no shirt). They wanted to free him, but he refused, saying that his friends, who had tied him up, would be back later for him.
They ultimately left him, but they didn’t feel good about it. The guy didn’t seem to be in his right mind. If they left him there and he starved, or died of exposure, would it be their fault? I don’t think they said anything about going back and untying him later.
*Yes, for you snide out-of-staters. New Jersey has wooded areas. Lots of them. But we keep them hidden from the casual travelers, who pick up their impressions of the state from driving through the Elizabeth/Linden part of the Jersey Turnpike, where the refineries are.
You come across a person in distress- you’re obligated to assist them. If they request to be untied, you do so. You do not take advantage of the situation and you do not molest or rape them.
So, it’s not all barren?
This must be one of a few cases, where the added context was more confusing than the original idea. Oddly enough, I sort of get why you didn’t originally offer context…or at least I think I do.
Anyway,
- No (obligated is a strong word)
- See above
- Don’t know, but I wouldn’t be thinking about sex in the situation
- Contact the authorities and don’t do further harm
:dubious:
You don’t assist first, you report things first. I’d whip my cell out and call 112 so if the axe murderer happens by there will be a record.
And that’s where I find there’s no signal…
First I’d like to know if this is a farmer’s daughter. Especially if I’m a traveling salesman.
This scenario reminds me of something that happened in real life that I read about in the newspaper a very long time ago. I forget where in the US, but the story as I recall it was that this lady was not tied up but rather had fallen off a cliff and was trapped on a ledge a ways below. She kept yelling for help, and some guy passing by heard her. But instead of helping her, he kept taunting her about how she was going to die. He eventually left, she stayed on the ledge all night and was rescued by a normal person the next day. She never saw her tormentor, just heard him taunting her. (She may be lucky that the wacko didn’t actually try to help her. It would have been just the two of them there.)
Thread won.
Only in the Pines.
Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill. For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished. Whoever then annuls one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.…
Matthew 5:18
I never said it was abolished, but it was fulfilled. Totally and completely fulfilled. Satisfied in full - forever.
Or put another way, what part of the Law does the blood of Jesus not cover?
It’s a bit more complicated then that, legally it appears you are not legally obligated to help them, but you are legally protected if you do (good Samaritan laws). But when you engage in a seemingly consensual sexual encounter, the nature of the relationship seems to legally change.
A possible counter example would be someone you find in bondage, that you know people will be able to free them when they get there in 2 days, you can not free them yourself, you also are 3 days from being able to get to a place to get help for her (him), you agree to stay with her (him), and in that process of you staying there you both agree to have sex.
