So, the accents bothered you, but the fact that all these fish speak English wasn’t a problem? Nemo and Marlin didn’t have American accents, they had clownfish accents. Pixar just happened to use American actors to voice them.
Incidentally, are we sure the dentist got them off the Great Barrier reef? I thought he was supposed to be on vacation, and Marlin seemed to go quite a distance to get him back. He’s a small fish, so it’s all relative, but it seemed a lot further than just the reef to the shore.
Ironically, clownfish are one of the few saltwater fish which breed readily in captivity. Unlike nearly every other aquarium fish, these days nearly all of them are captive-raised rather than wild-caught.
You don’t have to look close. Monster’s Inc. spoiler to follow. Boo picks it up and gives it to Sulley and then Sulley gives it a squeeze and it squeaks.
I recently visited the Sydney Aquarium. In neighbouring tanks, representing local tropical fish, you will find the Clownfish (playing hide and seek in some anemones or coral or whatever that stuff is) and the Blue Tang, and they looked EXACTLY like their Pixar counterparts.
I have to say I never heard of the Blue Tang being referred to as an Atlantic Blue Tang before. I’ve been diving in both the Atlantic and the Pacific and seen them in both places. It may be a particular branch of the blue tang family is indigenous to one ocean or another, but I honestly didn’t know there was a difference. They all had short-term memory loss, too.

There’s something seriously screwy with the way rjung made post 3623651. First off it was myself who said “You don’t have to look close” and then rjung said “Ah, but did you find the second Nemo appearance in Monsters Inc.? ;)” And then I said annoyed grunt Very strange.
So in short I don’t know where his second appearance was. As soon as I saw him I was satisfied and stopped looking. Although his wink makes me thing he might have appeared only once.
Actually on second thought it probably wasn’t Nemo anyway. Probbly Marlin.
Completely missed Nemo in Monsters Inc, probably because I didn’t know about Nemo the last time I saw MI, but did anyone catch that there was a Jesse cowgirl doll that Boo hands to Sulley?
Something that struck me about the movie is the place where the sharks hang out. Are those old (what are they . . . bombs?) really accurate, do they float like that and go off with the smallest hit?
I don’t know about the old bombs, but I did catch a Toy Story ref in Finding Nemo. There is a shot of the dentist’s office and in one corner is a toychest containing none other than a Buzz Lightyear doll!
People ask if they find Nemo at the end, and I tell them yeah, he’s at Long John Silvers with a side of hush puppies.
It annoys me when I’m trying to clean the damn theatre and parents are waiting around with their kids for the outtakes. There are none! OTH there is a pretty cool little thing with a lamp fish and the jittery little fish who was at the Nice Sharks Meeting.
Also, I heard Pixar has one more film with Disney then they’re on their own. Think they’ll be doin adult remakes of their old stuff?
I thought the silent “curtain call” during the credits was far better than any possible outtakes could have been, actually. The whole outtakes gag was becoming pretty stale, and I was glad that Pixar thought of something just as entertaining to replace it for Finding Nemo.
Hey, that’s worth sticking around the credits for, too. That and the “production babies” (list of babies born to Pixar staff during the making of the movie).
Still would like to see outtakes, though.
Not a chance; they’ve stated repeatedly that they want to make family movies, stuff that you can take the entire family to see. Which is, really, the secret of their success, since most adults don’t leave Finding Nemo and felt like they wasted two hours of their lives (as opposed to Rugrats Go Wild).
