I hope that I am not breaking rules by bringing up Facebook, but if I am please report me.
I have tried to find a couple of friends recently on Facebook. I know that they are on Facebook, but when I search for them I get “No results found for your query”. It’s frustrating. I know it’s not just me, when a couple of friends try to find me they get the same result.
So, is there a magic way to find people over there?
My profile is hidden to anybody who isn’t a friend of a friend. So for example, I have a friend I met recently who doesn’t know my other friends. He couldn’t find me. My profile didn’t show up (nor did those of my family–we all do the same thing). But my mother’s friend could find me, because my mother is my friend on facebook.
I know I’m missing some potential friends here but I prefer the added security. My suggestion would be to try LinkedIn or another network instead.
I have a few friends who are married women who go only by their married names on FB; so if you only know them by their maiden name you won’t be able to find them.
It’s not your settings, but theirs. Anyone can set their own settings so people cannot find them via search. There’s nothing you can do about it if they don’t contact you.
Search for their e-mail address within Facebook (if they use more than one you’ll need to guess which one is associated with their Facebook profile). Or, if their name is uncommon, you could try doing a google search for their name; a Facebook user can optionally allow their Facebook entry to be found that way. However, like others have said, if they don’t want to be found (and they know what they are doing) you won’t find them.
I also don’t have my list of friends showing except to my daughter and my sister. It doesn’t show to the rest of my friends. I have found people with similar settings by going to other people who might know them to see if they’ve posted. Most people don’t have their privacy settings as tight as I do, and I can find them there. I hope this is clear!
If you can’t find your friends with a direct search, try searching indirectly: go to the FB page of someone else who knows them, and then eyeball their Friend list to see if they’re there.
It probably won’t help if their security settings are really tight, but you might find them if they’re using pseudonyms. I know at least three people whose FB pages are under names that only people who know them would recognize.
