Facebook question, my friend and I don't show up to each other

I’m trying to add a friend and she’s trying to add me, but when she searches for my FB name she can’t find me, and when I do the same to her she doesn’t show up either. I’ve even tried to look for her through a mutual friend’s friendlist but she doesn’t show up there either. What’s going on?

Go to your privacy settings. Is “search for you on Facebook” set to everyone?

I don’t even see that option. Can you tell me exactly what to click to get there?

Click on “Account” in the top right corner and then click on “Privacy Settings.” At the top of that page you should see “Connecting on Facebook.” Click on “View Settings” underneath that. The very first option is “Search for you on Facebook.” Change that to “Everyone.”

Try searching by email address. I’ve had to do that to add people when they don’t show up in the regular search box.

Seems to me the suggestion made above is much more likely, but just to cover all possibilities - have you checked your block list (go to Accounts, then Privacy Settings, then Block Lists)? If some how you have accidentally blocked your friend (don’t ask me how; just covering a remote possibility) then you’ll get the effect you describe.

Don’t forget that either one of you could have that setting turned off.

It worked! Thanks! Both of us had the “no public searches” thing. I didn’t even know that was a thing we could change!
