This morning, I had occasion to email another SDMB poster. If it had been to respond to a particular post, that would have been easy: I’d have clicked on the mailbox icon, and the email addy would’ve popped up.
But in fact, I wasn’t even on my computer at the time, so I sat down and logged on in order to find the poster’s email. The only way I could think of was pretty roundabout: (1) do a search for posts by that poster, then (2) click on the mailbox icon.
My question: is there a more direct way to get to posters’ emails and profiles, if one isn’t immediately looking at a post by that poster? If that’s the best way there is, then so be it, but if there’s somewhere I’ve missed where we can type in a username and have the profile pop up, I’d appreciate being pointed in the right direction.
If the username has a space in it, you can try the above link with the space. Most newer browser versions will insert %20 for you. If you have an older browser, you might have to do it yourself like this:
You see, every afternoon at exactly 4:30 CST, I check the total number of posters on the main page (X[sub]Day N[/sub]) against the total from the previous day(X[sub]Day N-1[/sub]). Then I spend the rest of the evening tracking down all of the new posters that signed up that day ( X[sub]Day N-1[/sub] - X[sub]Day N[/sub]). Once I have an up-to-date (retroactive to 16:00 CST, that is) list of all posters, I bookmark each profile page, using the method you describe.
That way, whenever I wander through my house, looking at the photographs of all registered posters I’ve tracked down, printed out, blown up to large size and papered my walls with, if someone catches my eye, I can jump right to their profile page!
sdimbert: yeah, I noticed, but my, uh, reconnaissance shows that the particular picture of me you have up in your living room is an unflattering one. Can I send you a more up-to-date photo?
