Ah, yes. B5, the Young and the Restless of the Sci-Fi community.
I can’t make a religion of watching weekly to keep up with the ever-changing storyline - I like episodic television, where the problem is introduced and resolved with the limits of one episode.
Simpler stories? Probably, but better suited to my lifestyle.
I haven’t seen that much of B5, but the writing and acting didn’t seem all that superior to me. And with DS9, I’ve seen more bad episodes than I have with TNG, and I’ve seen a lot more TNG. Although I will admit that DS9 had a much better first season.
Actually, I was challenged to a mud wrestling match by a gay sci-fi geek - we were arguing over the same year to bid for the annual queer sci-fi convention, Gaylaxicon. Now that’s geeky!
Actually, Esprix, I got ya’ beat for gay geekiness. I attended the first ever YAOI-con in San Francisco in August 2001 to discuss, view, and read “homoerotic Japanese animation and comic books.”
I’m amazed at what you can get on Japanese television. You can’t even get a gay kiss on American television half the time. In Japan, Boku no Sexual Harassment, which is basically gay soft-core except it’s not all that soft.
