This may be old news but I know it was on a lot of people’s wish lists; it appears that Fireflywill be coming out on DVD. Nathan Fillion (Mal) confirms it. He says he has just finished recording commentary for War Stories and will be recording one for Serenity next. He also said that the DVD set will include all 15 episodes, including the three that never aired on Fox.
Wow. I went out to grab some lunch, and was thinking, “When the hell is Firefly coming out on DVD?” I get back with my burrito, open up Cafe Society, and this is almost literally the first thread I see.
The Straight Dope: So smart, it can answer questions before you even ask them.
Y’know, I thought I’d be happier about this news. Instead, I still feel bitter that this great SF series was cancelled before it even had a chance. A pox on Fox, I say.
Be strong! While Firefly the TV Series is dead Joss has turned his attention to making Firefly the Movie! The boy just loves that show and has been burned more by TV networks lately than by movie studios, so…
One board I frequent is Firefly-based and most of the cast posted at one time or another. Yes, they were verified. These weren’t psychos PRETENDING to be cast members, though Adam Baldwin has turned out to be enough of a (grrrrr!) Republican to make me wonder about the psycho part. He’s turned into a regular poster with almost as many posts as me. I tried directing him over here but he hasn’t shown up that I know of. As for the commentaries on the DVD, he logged on once asking for help–he was taping his bit in 45 minutes and didn’t know what to say.
I’ve found a site that has all the eps available for download to hold me until the DVDs come out but I ain’t sayin’ where it is!
Glad to hear about the DVD release, though I’m electronically impaired enough that a DVD is about as useful to me as a fish is to a bicyle (or however the saying goes).
Still, it does my heart good to know it exists, and here’s hoping a Firefly movie fares better than the series did!
My wife claims to have made up that saying. Gets mad when it’s misquoted, saying it’s Capital M Man, not “A man.” I can’t find any references before when she first wrote it on a ladies room wall in the early 70s so I’m forced to take her at her word until the day when, joy of joys!, I can prove her wrong. There is little that makes me happier but it’s rare when I can.
Call me “drop.” BTW, it was quoted (incorrectly, IIRC) in Robert Anton Wilson’s Cosmic Trigger-The Final Secret of the Illuminati. I thought the Illuminatus Trilogy and associated books were required reading on this board, like everything by Douglas Adams. You can’t get the fnord jokes otherwise.
When I was in college one of the Christian groups made t-shirts picturing a fish riding a bicycle, so the God version of the slogan obviously had some currency – at least in central New York in the mid-1990’s.
