Firefly, Solaris and Star Wars AotC

I don’t think my comment indicated that I liked John Norman. (For the record, I DO like John Norman, in fact, I think he’s one of the most gifted fantasy writers ever, though I admit he has his flaws.) I was just saying I thought the relationship could be a little darker than the Alphonse Mucha-tinted romance they had, considering Anakin’s potential for evil and all.

So, you’re arguing that the romance was too Gorean, not that it was too saccharine?

I don’t think the Norman stuff or the hentai are particularly central to AotC, Firefly or Solaris, but maybe I’ll start a thread or two on those topics and see if anyone wants to talk about them.

I think this constitutes a new Law of the Internet: Once a thread ostensibly about science fiction turns into a favorable appraisal of the Gor books, it is over.

I hereby dub this the Evil Captor Law!

This happens a lot? :dubious:

Haven’t seen “Solaris” so I can’t comment on that.

But I’m in the middle of seeing “Firefly” for the first time, so I can comment on that. And I’ve seen AotC several times.

No way is AotC is better. AotC is okay, if you don’t mind the weak plot and the irritating Annakin guy. The special effects are great, and I always love the music. I’m a big Star Wars geek and I’m pretty forgiving. I bought the DVD, just out of a feeling of loyalty.

But “Firefly” is far more interesting. I love the characters. The plots are okay, but it’s the characters that are sucking me in. I love 'em all, but right now I think that Shepherd Book (Ron Glass) and Kaylee are my favorites. My favorites may change at any time, though, which to me is a sign of well-written characters.
