Firefox 3 and SDMB anchors/fragment identifiers

I wasn’t sure whether this should go in GQ, ATMB, or perhaps even IMHO. I’ll start it here and see what happens.

I’ve been using Firefox 3rc1, and have run into a small but somewhat annoying issue on the SDMB. On this message board, Firefox 3 seems to have problems locating anchors within pages accurately.

For example, when i get a notification email, and click on the link to take me to a new post, it will always leave me about one full screen short of the intended link. The same thing happens when i try to specify a particular post. For example, here is a link to a post i made last night, but if i click on that link in FF3, it takes me to the right place for an instant, and then jumps up about one full screen, so that i end up at about post #55 rather than post #58.

When i was using FF2 on the SDMB, the browser always found the right post, so my first thought was that this might be a problem with FF3, and that needs to be fixed in the browser itself.

BUT some research since also suggests that this might be something specific to the SDMB.

I am a member of another forum running (a more recent version of) vBulletin, and in that forum FF3 always deposits me at exactly the right place. Also, regular internal page anchors on non-vB pages (like this one) work fine in FF3. The only place i have this problem is the Straight Dope.

Any ideas?

I’m also using FF3 RC1, and your link also takes me to around #55. BUT, that’s only if I click the link. If I past the same URL into the address bar, it seems to work properly. It looks like a bug with following links. You might want to document this in bugzilla.

(after searching to see if it’s not already known)

That’s sort of what happens to me, with a slight difference.

If i click on the link, it goes to the wrong place.

If the page is already open, and i place my cursor in the address bar and hit “Enter,” it goes to the right place.

If i open a new tab, paste the address in the address bar and hit “Enter,” it goes to the wrong place.

I will report the bug, but as i said in the OP, the only place this happens to me is on the SDMB; not on regular web pages, and not on other vBulletin sites.
