Firefox text blurs when scrolling

This has been going on for months and months, though several (at least 3) Firefox updates, and I can’t fix it.
When I open a web site in a window/tab, everything looks fine. When I start scrolling down the page, the text blurs and becomes very difficult to read. Stop scrolling, and the text remains blurry. It’s worse at the top of the screen than the bottom, but it’s unreadable anywhere on the screen. If I mouseover a link or highlight the text by holding the mouse button down it becomes clear, but blurs when I scroll again.

In the Advanced tab of firefox options, under the General sub-tab, there are two boxes labeled “Use autoscrolling” and “use smooth scrolling”. I have tried various combinations of checking/unchecking one or both boxes, and it doesn’t help.

My graphics card (radeon 4870) is set to the recommended resolution for my computer monitor (It’s an Acer 19" widescreen lcd). I have all Windows, graphics card, and Firefox updates.

Any ideas? I am at my wits end.

Oh, good. I have been bothered by this very thing and am dying for an answer or hint as well. For me it started being noticeable in Google Maps, but now I see it just about everywhere but not every time. And don’t you just love things that are only intermittent but not entirely reproducible.

I’m running Firefox 29 and Win 7.

Don’t have experience with this problem, but I would go to Tools, Option, Advanced and play with “Use smooth scrolling” and “Use hardware acceleration when possible.”

First of all, how are you trying to scroll the page (PgUp/PgDown, scroll bars, mouse wheel)? Smooth scrolling affects how firefox acts when you scroll with the PgUp and PgDown keys. (Cite).

If you use the mousewheel, you might want to take a look at windows’ mouse settings and look at the number of lines it’s set to scroll by (default is 3, I think).

Aside from that, I’d try reinstalling firefox (you can download a tool called mozbackup to backup your settings and extensions, so you don’t have to redo them all) and/or your video driver. If that doesn’t work, I’d check any extensions that modify how pages scroll, or how they’re rendered. Try unchecking the use hardware acceleration option.

It sounds like firefox isn’t redrawing the page properly when you scroll. Can you scroll okay using the other methods?

Yeah, it’s probably the hardware acceleration.
