computer gurus...video question

I just updated my computer with a new processor, motherboard, video card. Normally, I use my mouse wheel and scroll down to read the message board. When I did that in the past with my old equipment, the page scrolled smoothly and I could read it as it flowed by. Now with my new hardware, the page no longer scrolls smoothly. It kind of jumps and redraws itself. Is there some sort of simple generic setting I need to look at? If it matters, I have an Asus 4200 video card attached to an Asus AN78X deluxe MoBo.

I know this is not a general interest item and I apologize to the uninterested. But this is kind of a big deal to me. Thank you for any help.

In IE: Click Tools > Internet Options > Advanced Tab. Make sure Use Smooth Scrolling is checked.

Oh wait. Mouse wheel scrolling. That might not be it. But try it anyway.

Q.E.D., That was so simple that it was ingenious. Unfortunately, smooth scrolling was already checked and it won’t solve my problem. Any other tips?

Try updating video drivers.

You didn’t say if you updated your OS too, or even what OS you’re using, as well as what browser (I’m assuming IE, given your last comments). Have you gotten the latest drivers for your mouse? If not, that’s a good place to start. Also, open up Control Panel, and open the Mouse applet. Browse around in there and see if there’s an option to set the wheel parameters. Mine has a Wheel Tab, and I can set the number of lines to scroll per wheel-click from 1 to whatever. Yours may be different, but similar.

What about:

  1. “Scroll size” under control panel->mouse?

  2. Correct driver for your moniter?

It was the video drivers. Sometimes it is the simplest thing that one overlooks. Thank you VERY much for pointing out the obvious to me.
