First album.

what was the first album you ever purchased with your own money?

Since mixed tapes don’t count granted I was a little bit older my first album I ever purchased with my own money was Judas Priest Turbo.

Simon & Garfunkel: Sounds of Silence

I was obsessed with the song Indiana Wants Me, so I spent $3.69 for this.

Still have it.
mmm

I’m pretty sure my first vinyl LP was the Blues Brothers soundtrack. (I wanted to get the Star Trek soundtrack but the record store didn’t have it.) Either that or the J. Geils Band live album that came out after Freeze Frame; not sure which came first. My first CD was Talking Heads’ True Stories.

KISS’s Destroyer

The Clash’s first record.

The Beatles Sgt Pepper, which had been out about ten years at that point. Always went with the classics.

The Beatles Abbey Road, closely followed by Grand Funk Railroad’s Closer to Home.

Van Morrison’s Hard Nose the Highway. It was mislabeled, so I got it cheap.

Mine’s a four way tie, because when I was 13 my parents let me join that Columbia Records & Tapes Club where you got 12 tapes for a penny. Mom and Dad each chose 4, and I chose:

Van Halen, 5150
Dire Straits, Brothers in Arms
Sting, The Dream of the Blue Turtles
The Dream Academy, s/t

Queen “News of the World”

It was pretty new at the time and I was very young, neither of those are true now.

Capt

The Beatles 1967-1970, the blue one, brand new at the time.

It was a single. John Mellencamp’s Wild Night (with Me’shell Ndege Ocello).

ETA, that was my first CD, it’s possible there were cassettes before that, but I don’t know. If I did, it wouldn’t have been many. I’m sure I still have the CD though.

Baby.

I think it was Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Gold & Platinum.

My younger brother & I pooled our allowance money to buy Kiss’ Hotter Than Hell. I must have been about seven when we got it, but it had already been a few years old at that point (our older brother already had Alive, Destroyer and Love Gun.)
On my own, my very first album was Alice Coopers’ Welcome to My Nightmare.

None of these albums was at all indicative of any of my future musical tastes.

IIRC, Synchronicity.

Bought Jesus Christ Superstar and All Things Must Pass at the same time - Christmas money.

It was either Led Zeppelin IV or Paula Abdul’s Forever Your Girl.

Led Zeppelin IV. Yessongs was the second one, for what it’s worth.
