First Annual SDMB Fantasy Football Guillotine League - Cecil’s Chopping Block

I am deathly afraid of a monsoon hitting Jacksonville tonight.

The projected low score moving into the 90s had me nervous yesterday.

Omni is currently in last by projected score but Railer and Justin can still be the ones that get snipped. Justin needs 7 points out of BTJ and Railer needs 31 points out of Mahomes, Worthy, and Etienne combined to be safe.

I need 20 yards from Kelce to guarantee safety - I’m honestly sweating it.

I thought I could afford one dart throw by starting Woody Marks - he was getting high praise in fantasy football circles, and I’m one consistent RB from being somewhat comfortable with my team. Demercado didn’t help his case on the 1-yard line (WHY do people do that?!?).

Whoops, I didn’t notice you were in danger too. The interface on seeing how everyone is doing isn’t great.

The odds are definitely not in my favor here, but pretty much all the players who can hurt me on MNF are near the top of the fantasy bust list this season

Probably my best out is if Worthy ends up being hobbled or is a late scratch. Kelce putting up a goose egg would be incredibly gratifying. Maybe Bashul Tuten will account for 100% of the Jags offense.

Honestly I was feeling incredibly confident after the early games. I can’t believe James Cook laying an egg will probably be my end. Definitely got too cute with that Jameson Williams start.

[nailbiting intensifies]

Railer is breathing a bit easier, although interceptions don’t help.

Let’s start leading Justin up to the gallows again. Needs a BTJ catch on this drive.

Edit: It happened just as I was posting that. It’s time, Omni.

Well that was way too close for comfort.

Sorry, @Omniscient. Better luck next year.

I couldn’t believe that shit.

I have a feeling this is going to be the wildest waiver wire so far as I was the 3rd highest scoring team.

There are definitely a couple of desirable players that are now available.

Yahoo could really simplify the waiver claim process if they had a list of players you want to grab, and a list of players you want to drop. It’s a bit of a pain in the ass to put in waivers that say “I want player A, drop player x. I want player B, drop player x. I want player C, drop player x” and then in case you win two of those, you need “I want to player A, drop player y. I want player B, drop player Y”

It would be simplified to simply say “I want A, B, and C. Cut players to make space in the order of X, Y, Z”

Of course you might want to make specific player for player swaps, like if they’re in the same position, but having both options would be nice. Because I find myself making about 15 waiver claims right now just to make sure the right players will be dropped to make space regardless of which claims I win.

That would be pretty error prone. I definitely think the UI could be improved and a way to submit multiple claims added, but a general add players ABC and drop players XYZ mechanic would only work under specific circumstances and players would misuse it.

The way I would design it is something like this.

  1. Choose player to drop.
  2. Choose player A to add with dollar amount.
  3. Choose player B to add with dollar amount.
  4. Choose player C to add with dollar amount.
  5. Rank players A, B and C.

This effectively accomplishes the same result as the current model, but makes things a lot clearer and saves a lot of clicks.

Curious to see how the feeding frenzy of Omni’s corpse will go but I have to wait for yahoo’s ENIAC servers to process waivers.

I think Justin Bailey is going to spend 97% of the next 7 weeks in last position only to scrape out a win at the end every week until he is the final survivor.

It would appear that I massively overpayed for Egbuka. Do you guys know he’s the #3 scoring WR? And he’s a rookie in a healthy offense that should get better every week, so I’m surprised there wasn’t more competition for him. I paid 1.8x the next best offer.

Barkley, on the other hand, went for $401 when the second best bid was $400.

James Cook is a steal at $225 compared to Barkley’s $401. And the winning bid was only 12% over the next bid, so well done there.

If I had stuck to my original plan, I bid about $270 for Egbuka and $250 for James Cook. I could afford that, and I would’ve won them both. But since I revised my bid to be higher, after Egbuka I didn’t have enough money for my Cook bid to go through. I thought at those lower prices I might miss out on both.

I’m pretty much spent. I’ve got a pretty strong team, with the best QB, Chase and Egbuka at WR with Davante Adams as backup, and a RB trio of Jeanty, Hall, and Judkins. I’ll miss out on some waivers in the future though, but my team is pretty stacked at the moment.
