Last week, the SDMB gained subscribers at a consistent clip of about 70 a day. Wonder how it will be this week?
I make it 2,634 almost exactly 24 hours later. That means that 70 a day has slowed to more like 30 a day. I’m still interested to see how the predictive models stand up to reality.
The 70 per day is an anomaly anyway.
In 2003 new members joined at a rate of 38 per day.
In 2002 new members joined at a rate of 27 per day.
It’s mostly vanity driving people to this Board. Think about how the SDMB would explode if the administrators introduced titles for posters that get funkier the higher your post count is.
I registered today, and I surely benefit from the dollar’s current weakness. The $4.95 worked out to charge my PayPal account (specially registered for this purpose) only 4.22 euros. Hah!

I just now (0910 CDT) got a count of 2,663. I am counting the SDSAB folks together with the Charter Members – AFAIK, virtually all the SDSAB are paid up. Even if a few Advisory Board people are getting comped, the figures aren’t skewed much anyway.
Right … no one that I know of expects a particularly high rate of subscribers past April 21st.
It will be interesting to watch. Some of the Charter Members signing up right now are in fact complete newbies. I suspect the registration rate (which will include Guests) will stay about the same as in previous years. I agree that the subscription rate will slow greatly after April 21.
I wonder how many people have subscribed but not posted since, and so their status is not yet showing up as “Charter Member”? Could skew the figures somewhat.

my guess is not many. surely it irks to see your status unchanged after paying for it, so you either test post or complain post or something.
Well, this is my first post since I signed up. It hadn’t occurred to me that my status didn’t automatically change. And I don’t really care about my status. I’ve been too busy to visit much and wouldn’t have signed up if I hadn’t gotten the email. I can’t be the only one.
We should have a decent uptick in subscriptions starting around the 19th of this month:

I’ve been tracking subscription data (as have others, as seen in this thread) and just found out that if you’ve paid, you’ll show up as a Charter Member in the Forum Leaders page, whether you’ve posted since paying or not. In fact, there is at least one Charter Member with 0 posts to his/her name. I don’t know if your new title shows up in thread views without posting, though.
And UB makes three; I paid, too, because I wanted to be able to search before they got around to updating my status.
