The school isn’t closing tomorrow, though the boy’s class has been sent home. Various parents I have seen predicting “there’s going to be basically nobody there though”. Now we get till 9 tomorrow morning to decide if the Taller Girl’s going to be one of them.
Fun times! Let me just check where my thermometer is…
We’ve got a couple of people here in the office who’ve been forced to stay at home for a week in quarantine after returning from the US on one of the suspect flights.
If you ever see a pushbike barrelling down the street carting three kids (one on the back, two in the trailer)…give us a wave
I don’t think my School Dopelet is at special risk, but I note from the paper that they’ve now had a case up in Epping where they don’t know where he got it from. So the whole inner north may be about to see a flu wave.
Pooz - I was only 9 weeks pregnant when work was offering free flu shots, but if there is flu to the north of me, flu to the south of me - perhaps it’s worth stumping up the cash to get it done through my doctor, as I don’t fancy being pregnant and dead of swine flu at the same time!
I don’t want to diminish the potential impact that the flu could have on us (I’m in MEL too) but there is lots of talk in the media of the number of cases reported but as far as I am aware the threat has not escalated beyond general flu-like symptoms, and it’s beginning to look like it’s no worse than any of the other flus that we all come down with once in a while. Does anyone know if hospitalisation has taken place ie is this actually a more serious health issue than regular flu, or is it being beaten up?
There has certainly been deaths internationally from the disease, but the normal flu is also capable of killing the very young and elderly as well. One part of me thinks the authoritahs couldn’t possibly be reacting like this if there wasn’t good reason to, another part hears that the symptoms are like the flu and that healthy people will shake it off like any other moderate illness, and thinks “why the fuss?” Ultimately I am too lazy to look deep enough into it to come to an informed opinion.
Woohoo! I found out last night that I’ve got a relative who’s currently on the plague ship. I have to give her a call tomorrow night and find out if she’s still alive.
