Fish heads fish heads

What was this from?

Fish heads fish heads
Roly poly fish heads
Fish heads fish heads
Eat them up, yum!

I took a fish head out to see a movie
I didn’t have to pay to get it in

Aargh! I just gave a friend a Dr. Demento CD with this song on it. There’s a lead for you.

Barnes & Barnes?

Yep. Fish Heads by Barnes and Barnes. Can be found on more than 1 Dr. Demento compilation.

I remember it being on the Dr. Demento Show about every other week, actually. For a very brief time, early in its life, MTV ran the video for it.

Second Echo, did you post that twice on purpose because of your user name?

And one of the “Barnes” is Billy Mummy, from Lost in Space and much later Babylon 5. I believe he wrote that particular ditty.

The video was directed by Bill Paxton.

“Game over man!”

Fish heads Fish heads,
Laughing happy Fish heads,
Fish heads Fish heads
Floating in the soup!

Oh, yeah, that’s right, Bill Mumy (note spelling). We’re going to see America in a few weeks, and Mr. S said he hoped Bill Mumy was sitting in as he sometimes does, so he could yell “Fish Heads!” (I think, or at least I hope, that he wouldn’t actually do it though. )

I’ve posted this before only to have some goofball quickly rebut.

But…

I notice a remarkable similarity between Andrew Lloyd Weber’s Music of the Night from Phantom of the Opera and the song “Fish Heads.”

Seriously.

“Night time sharpens
Heightens each sensation”

Matches exactly in rhythm and in notation with:

“Fish heads, Fish Heads,
Roly Poly Fish Heads.”

And in the words of Grandpa Simpson, “I am not a crackpot.”

Wow, I never noticed that before, but now I can hear it!

Which one was written first?

They were doing a retrospective on old videos on VH1, and that song came on. I told my son to watch it because it was funny. When it was over, her turned to me and said, “You actually watched that crap?”

Kids these days.

Barnes and Barnes are Robert Haimer and Bill Mumy.

My brother actually had the Barnes and Barnes album containing “Fish Heads,” which he won on the radio. I don’t remember anything else about it except (if I remember correctly) that each song ended with “Yeah!”

Poor fish heads. They don’t play baseball or wear sweaters or play drums. Oh, and they’re never seen drinking capuccino in Italian restaurants with Oriental women.

Loved this song! I must go find a copy now. When Nickelodeon had that clip and video show “Turkey TV”, “Fish Heads” was played in just about every other episode.

My sister and I used to sing along every time it would come on, one of our few bonding moments at the time. Once my mom walked into the room, confused to see us getting along so well. Then she saw what had brought us together, decided the song was “crazy” and the video was “gross” and “not funny” for using actual fishheads like that. Mom has absolutely no sense of the absurd.

What do I win?
