My friend sent me this story. Leaving aside whether or not it is legit, I was wondering if this “counted” as a rod and reel fishing record. As described, the guy was reeling in one fish, when this bigger fish tried to eat the first fish. The fisherman got both fish in his net.
It doesn’t seem to me that the larger fish was really caught with his rod and reel, was it? At no time was it connected to his line or tackle. It seems that he actually caught it with his net.
Do the folk who keep records distinguish about such things?
But if one was to scoop a fish out of the water, Minnesota wouldn’t allow it. Even a snagged fish is to be released in MN.
If you are pulling in a legally caught fish and another larger fish took it and you are able to land it, its still not legal, as the bait was wrong, A game fish (any can’t be used as bait).
I was looking for some internet cite to back up the fact that catching more than one ling cod on one hook has happened enough times around here that its common knowledge. Then I came across this gem where a fisherman hooks a 61 pound ling cod, 7 lbs over the record only to have his fish cough up a 9 lb ling as he weighs it. The rules state that you can’t include regurgitation.
