As a corollary to the “hated jukebox songs” thread, It made me think of what I never get tired of hearing. Hence the following scenario;
You are on a desert island, alone with little or no chance of ever being found. Fortunately, there appears to be an excellent sound system on this island. You are given the opportunity to choose five songs from this system but only five and having chosen, these songs will be the only music you will ever hear again. Not constantly, you may choose to turn it off and on but onlt those five songs.
Quickly, off the top of my head,
Yellow Brick Road by Elton
Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen
I can Hear Music by the Beach Boys
Beautiful Noise by Neil Diamond
Makin Whoopee by Dr. John
I’ve probably dated myself by my choices but I did it rather quickly.
If this island were truly a “desert” (as opposed to “deserted”), I don’t think entertainment would be my top priority. And I wouldn’t limit myself to “songs” anyway.
Requiem in D Minor, WA Mozart and Karajan/Berlin Phil - should be a good one to kill myself to, when I get tired of living on a desert island. Goldberg Variations, JS Bach and Glenn Gould (the slower version - 1982?) - for stargazing while sipping on a coconut. Peer Gynt, Edvard Grieg. Any version will do. Morgenstemning will be the call of my alarm clock, though I’m not entirely sure why I’d need one on a desert island. Suite No.1 for Unaccompanied Cello, JS Bach and Yo-Yo Ma - to wallow to. All I Ask of You, Andrew Llyod Webber, Original London Cast Recording - anchored to one of my fondest memories.
!.) God Only Knows - The Beach Boys
2.) In the Aeroplane Over the Sea - Neutral Milk Hotel
3.) Mayonaise - The Smashing Pumpkins
4.) Nothing Better/Sleeping in - The Postal Service (Not quite sure which)
5.) Scale, A Mirror, and These Indifferent Clocks - Bright Eyes
That pretty much should cover all the bases… The songs are in no order, btw, except that God Only Knows will always hold the top spot.
Elephant Stone (12") by The Stone Roses She’s a Superstar by Verve Won’t Get Fooled Again by The Who Tom Weir by Aberfeldy The Queen is Dead - The Smiths
Here Comes The Sun- The Beatles
Tears In Heaven- Eric Clapton
Both Sides Now- Joni Mitchell
Slow Hand - Pointer Sisters
Bohemian Rhapsody or Me and Bobby McGee

The Ballad of Sir Frankie Crisp (Let it Roll) by George Harrison
Canon in D by Pachelbel- George Winston version

Eleanor Rigby (the Beatles)
Land of a Thousand Dances (Wilson Pickett) for when I need something up-tempo
Bell Bottom Blues Eric Clapton
**Winter ** Tori Amos (My mother loved this song; we played it at her funeral.) Rain Beatles Both Sides Now Joni Mitchell Iko Iko Dixie Cups (I think that’s what it’s called.)
Trapped on a desert island? You’ve got to work the theme, I think:
"Back to the Island" - Leon Russell "Can’t get There from Here" - R.E.M. "A Pirate Looks at Forty" - Jimmy Buffett "Island in the Sun" - Weezer "Jungle Love" - Steve Miller Band
