Does anyone know of an iPad app which allows you to find and identify flags - something like what this website does?
I thought Flags of the World might have had one, but I did not find an app.
Do you have a “Google App”, in which you can google “flag identifier”?
I just have a desktop, so I don’t know how apps limit my access to information and the web, so maybe that was a stupid question. I googled /apps/ once to try to see if I could find out what Apps are, but I didn’t get a very satisfying result.
Google Goggles might do it for you, if the flag is simple enough.
Actually, I just put Goggles to the test. It seems to work better on flags with detail (presumably not if they’re small, though.) It got Belize and Mozambique, which both have detail on them (Mozambique has an AK-47 on its flag). Unfortunately, it thought Australia was The Falkland Islands the first time, and couldn’t get Chad or Luxembourg at all (both simple 3 stripe flags).
ETA: Perhaps try looking for other image-recognition apps. CamFind is good, according to this page.
No camera on my iPad, so any form of image recognition is out. I’d just like to have a way of looking up unfamiliar flags when I see them. I see a lot, between the embassies, diplomatic residences, and visiting head of state decorations, and don’t recognize more than half.
Bumped.
I just saw a flag I didn’t recognize being flown nearby. It had five horizontal stripes of equal size, going from top to bottom:
Green
Red
White
Red
Green
No other mark or insignia on the flag. FlagID.org, Flag Detective, flag-finder.com, Photius Easy Flag Identifier, Flag Wizard and Flags.net all struck out. Anyone know it?
