We got 6 inches of rain today, with at least 4 of them between 8PM and 11PM. I went out to the mall with my friend today, I was there until maybe 5:30. When I stepped outside of Best Buy, I could see the parking lot was covered in at least an inch of water and I could even SEE WAVES ALL OVER it. I went back to his house, seeing lots of cars hydroplane and four of them crashed, on the 3-4 mile drive. This btw, was before the torrential downpours bringing 4 inches in less then 3 hours. When I got an alert on my phone that there was a flood warning, I immediately went home, because the road between our houses often floods. I saw on the news that many of the major roads here in Portland are either closed or flooded out. My street is on a hill, but I cant really leave the house because it looks like a raging river.
I’m glad you went home. Flash floods are lightning fast. Many people really don’t understand the dangers of fast moving water. Stay safe and dry!
I just saw on the news that last night broke the all-time record in Portland for rainfall in a single hour, with 2.4 inches between 9 and 10 PM.
