When the rain comes

It’s been raining today. We’re in Florida, so we’re used to rain. In the summertime it rains everyday, torrentially most times, for an hour or so. Today it rained steady, heavy thunderstorm rain from about 9 am until just a bit ago. Looks like it might start up again. One person claims it’s rained about 8 inches in the past 5-6 hours. Roads are closed from high water and traffic lights are out. There is about six inches of standing water in the parking lot. One of the buildings nearby has it worse, because the retention pond backed up and there is water most of the way up the car doors. Supposedly there was a roof collapse from water weight at the Bed, Bath & Beyond in St. Petersburg. Looks like I might not make it down to Miami for the weekend.

I can relate,**ShibbOleth **, I’m from St Pete. Currently, I am undergoing the Iraqi version of a tropical storm, or whatever the hell they call it over here. Hope you stay dry and safe. I will try to do the same.

Any other major damage in the area?

Great googly moogly, no kidding! I got utterly soaked whilst running from my car into a building. I must have covered all of 10 feet. And just so you know, when starched BDUs get wet, it feels like you’re wearing pond scum. Heavy pond scum. Uber yucky.

I’m sure that Dale Mabry was under water a couple of hours ago, and I’m really hoping that most of the water has run off by the time we go home, because we’re in the Lancer, and shooting the Dale Mabry rapids in a compact is less fun than you may think.

Stay safe. Bay News 9 is saying it was 12-15 inches of rain in some spots and 8 inches at Tampa Airport.

Lucretia, maybe you can hang out somewhere near the base until the traffic dies down. A lot of the water isn’t going away and they’re expecting more to come. Rush hour is going to be a major bitch today.

Well, number one son just called me and told me the power has been out for about an hour, and that stop lights are out in the Waters/Sheldon area. Also, our pool overflowed. Yikes!

Pools overflow all the time. Maybe you just haven’t noticed before. No biggie as long as the water isn’t coming in the house.

And who is number two son?

It wasn’t really a “I’m upset!” yikes so much as a “damn, that was a lot of water!” yikes. As far as I know there isn’t a number two son, but does there have to be a number two for there to be a number one?

We had a leak in the roof above our break room at work…directly over the refrigerator. So I had to find another place to store my lunch after it shorted out…

Anyone see the adverts for this thread: “Watch Rain Videos
No thanks, I’ll just look out the window…

We only drove through a couple of flooded spots on our way home, and our power finally came back on an hour ago, so I think we’ll live. But the rain is still coming down, albeit much more sporadically. I think I might try and Google some ark plans.

Little early for hurricane season, isn’t it?

They had to hold transition times at my school (which is on Central in between MLK and Hillsborough) to between cells of rain. Unfortunately, the rain would start back up while the kids were moving. We had a lot of wet kids yesterday.

It had died down in the Brandon area around 7 last night. I went to Channelside with a bunch of friends and it didn’t rain once. Now, it’s started back up in Brandon again.

Working at Publix today is going to be boring. Testing season is coming up, I need a little bit of boring right now.

And it just continues to come down. Yesterday a half hour trip to the grocery store took over an hour because of all the flooded roads and the resultant traffic. If I start seeing animals walking by in pairs I’m heading for the hills.
