All this discussion of the pictures, and Lohan’s body, and her trainwreck personal life, but no discussion of the context?

The pictures Lohan is aping were taken of Marilyn Monroe mere weeks before her death. They’re the last, and perhaps most famous, record of Monroe’s indelible public image. She posed for those pictures, and then she croaked.

And this is how Ms. Lohan chooses to catch the public’s eye at this moment? Really?

I was thinking about context, too…albeit in a different way.

Some of the comments about Lindsay’s rack might indeed seem uncharitable, but they must be viewed in context.

Imagine if the same set of breasts were found on:

A woman you know in real life --> Great cans.

A celebrity who is primarily known for her achievements or talents --> Great cans.

A celebrity who (at this point) is primarily known for trying her damndest to be the ultimate sex kitten --> Not-so-great cans.

I mean, if that set were found on Natalie Portman or Mia Hamm or somebody, we wouldn’t be nearly so critical.

I think some of us are surprised that after all the fuss about her and her exploits well… she’s really not all that looks wise. Other than her having large eyes and being somewhat buxom (and dressing provocatively) she’s not really all that pretty in the classical “Hollywood star” sense of the word. There are lots of women you see everyday just as, if not more, attractive than she is.

I never stopped to consider whether she was actually all that pretty or not when I was watchng Freaky Friday and Mean Girls. She was just so adorable. She was radiant. She lit up the screen. And I would have probably gone right one thinking she was an unusually attractive young woman if I hadn’t had all this evidence to the contrary given to me over the past couple of years.

Hell, if we had seen her topless in 2004, we’d be thinking “great cans!”

p.s. This whole discussion gives very new meaning to Shop-Rite’s annual Can-Can Sale, and it’s attendant ad jingle:

They’re not the last, although photographer Bert Stern has always tried to give that impression. They were taken in June 1962. Monroe died in August 1962. They were the last photos he took of her.

I think she’s so hard up for cash that she’ll do practically anything. Her last couple of movies have tanked, she’s a risk to hire, nothing but expenses of late.

SkipMagic, I understand breaking the links, and frankly, I’d rather not pop one of those open at work. Now, however I am home, and note that the links broken when thay are under an alias just disappear. I guess it would be a lot more work, but is there a way to just make them not work, but still allow a cut and paste? Should I have asked this in ATMB?
