Flash: new TV show (boxed spoilers)

I’m still thrown that Ronnie Raymond and Oliver Queen are cousins IRL.

That wasn’t what happened at all though. Reverse flash guy kept his body, it just changed into Wells. Wells very clearly and horribly died, he is not stuck in another body.

Evil Wells is a more interesting guy than good Wells.

Crossing threads here, but at least they don’t do the hyper-annoying “Arrow grab” - where Oliver commands, “Suit up!”… and then grabs his freaking bow. What, does he dress one-handed while holding it?

Yeah, yeah, it’s visual shorthand and dramatic. And, of course, the talent isn’t allowed to touch the carefully-constructed suit-on-the-cool-stainless-steel-mannequin prop. But for a show that usually avoids the easy and sloppy, this trope just irritates me every time.

Roy’s suit, with all the buckles and stuff looks like it’d take a half hour to get into.

Ollie: “are you ready yet??”
Roy: “five more minutes!”

I’m enjoying this series more than I thought I would, but I find one thing strangely irritating.

In the introductory voice-over that starts each show, Barry says, ‘…but then an accident made me the impossible’, and places the stress on the word ‘made’. This is weirdly incorrect. The emphasis should be on the word ‘me’. He’s not clarifying or remarking on the verb ‘made’, which isn’t in question. He’s remarking on the fact that after witnessing the impossible, an accident turned HIM into something impossible too.

Is it just me?

Every time the intro says he’s the fastest man alive I reply “No, reverse flash is!”

No, not just you. There are also too many words between the first and second “impossible”.

I think it’s just playing off of the voiceover for Arrow… “To do this, I must become someone else”.

There won’t be a new episode this week for some reason, but CW has released a trailer for what’s coming up in the rest of the season:

HINT: The next episode is entitled “All Star Team Up”.

Do you think Iris will get one of those (for lack of a better word) flashes from the other timeline?

“I didn’t want you to find out like this” indeed.

Ray Palmer is wasted in Starling. He and Felicity are much, much funnier in Central City. They really should visit more often.

My wife and I, who watch just about every show with supers, were commenting on how much faster an hour of The Flash passes compared to an hour of Agents of SHIELD most weeks. (And let’s not discuss how every hour of GoT seems to be only 15 minutes long.)

Is this “Atom” ever actually going to shrink?

He did mention going small at the end. I really hope they’re moving in that direction.

I’m realizing what makes this series better than Arrow and SHIELD, and equivalent with Daredevil. Its the lack of annoying characters. Iris Allen comes closest, though she’s light years ahead of Thea, Laurel, Roy, and the original Canary on Arrow, and Skye on SHIELD. Daredevil didn’t have anyone who consistently annoyed me as a character (or bad actor). Daredevil has superior acting and tighter writing (due to less episodes and a less ambitious but still strong storyline), but the dark, gritty tone, though true to the source, is overdone. I love Flash’s more upbeat and optimistic tone, and overall less angst than anything else I’ve ever watched on CW.

It’s a shame Iris doesn’t get to do much but complain and be suspicious. What would be fun, although the probably won’t do it, is if she got a lead on some other story and got herself into and out of trouble.

They’re working their way up to it. Because that kind of supernatural “meta-human” ability is more suited to The Flash than Arrow, even though they’re sister-shows, I think they’ll wait until last minute to get to that point before shifting him over to this new spin-off that’s currently germinating.

If I’d been Eddie, I would have said “It’s because I love you that I can’t tell you. Even knowing would put your life in danger. If I die because of what I know, I want to make sure you live.”

But I wonder …

… what if this causes him to lose Iris, and he gets all bitter about it and blames The Flash? Then he lives for 5 centuries and changes his first name from “Eddie” to “Eobard”…

If Eobard is a descendant of Eddie and Iris… maybe he needs to keep them together to make sure his branch of the family tree doesn’t get erased from the timeline. Let’s see… he can stage a fake assault on Iris in his car during the school dance so that Eddie can show up and defend her honor, winning her eternal love. Then all he has to do is run at 88 mph to travel forth to his past. Wait, that’s not right…

I really wish he would. The Atom was always one of my favorite superheroes, and … I’m just not feeling this armored super-suit. I suspect the show is shying away from the shrinking because Marvel has already announced an Ant-Man movie, and it would look too much like copying to the non-comic-reading public. Though I’m really loving Brandon Routh in the role. I suspect it must be difficult to go from playing Superman to playing The Atom, but he’s doing an admirable job so far.

In last night’s episode, I loved Felicity’s line about “feeling like I’m dating Barry, but with Oliver’s body”. :stuck_out_tongue:
