The DCAU Wally works in a crime lab, at least at one point–we see him at work briefly in the JLU episode “Flash and Substance”*, and he was analyzing some sort of residue and connecting it to a crime scene. I don’t believe we ever see Wally at any other job, though he did some commercials as the Flash.
*To go along with your comment about in-jokes: Mark Hamill, who played the Trickster in the old live-action series, also voices the Trickster in this episode. Given his existing association with the DCAU, I suppose it was irresistible.
Meh. I’ve watched the first two episodes of Flash, and while it may be a fair adaptation of the source material, it still seems like the same soapy, Smallville-esque material that i’ve long grown tired of in CW shows (complete with a cheesy villain of the week, every week).
I’m hanging in there because I was a pretty big fan of the Flash as a kid, but I’ll concede this show is missing a spark. I get that it can’t have the grit that Green Arrow has, but the writer’s seem to lack imagination when it comes to his abilities. In The Incredibles Dash worked out almost immediately that he could dodge punches at superspeed because really, someone fast enough to dodge bullets can dodge a punch from someone right in front of him.
And the characters are pretty much straight from Central Casting, Comic Book Division. Iris the journalist love interest that can’t see the hero is right in front of her, the over-enthusiastic science geek, the Jiminy Cricket chick insisting power be used responsibly, the mentor who knows more than he’s telling. It makes the show too predictable; who doesn’t foresee an angsty episode with Caitlin’s fiance returned from the dead with powers?
Either evil powers, or he sacrifices himself again 'cause he’s just that kind of guy. Or both.
I had a few issues with the third episode. First of all, “condemned criminal comes back to seek revenge on judge and cop who put him away?” How hackneyed is that? What’s more, the bad guy seemed to have psychic powers – how’d he know where to find his victims? And why attack someone in a prison? Wouldn’t you be more likely to lurk around their house until they came home from work? And since when is there an injectable antidote to hydrogen cyanide?
So that was all in the service of plot convenience, I guess. But how dumb is the Flash? He’s moving at half the speed of sound and can’t keep away from mist? Dude, you’re fighting a mist creature. Run into town and buy yourself a leaf blower. Or a few bags of activated charcoal.
That was the thing we were laughing at when watching the past few weeks. The Flash is getting beat up by the Mist and last week by Multiplex when he should have been able to handle them fairly easily with his super speed. Although with the Mist, he was letting himself get beaten that first time so he could get that sample. So he’s got that going for him, which is nice.
Ron is coming back as Firestorm. I figured that it was Ron Raymond just about as soon as I heard his name Ron mentioned. That seems like a bit of a leap in power levels but we’ll see how that plays out.
Firestorm is a composite of two people, though, IIRC. So who’s the other “part” of him going to be?
Another thing: When the Flash asked Mist why he’d killed the judge, Mist answered something like “She deserved to die.” I think it would have been a better line if he’d said, “She started it.”
I’d have thought that but next week’s ep puts Felicity from Arrow back in the mix. I actually like her as a love interest for Barry; it makes more sense than her and Ollie even if it can’t last due to Iris.
Two weeks ago, he squared off against the Weather Wizard by running fast enough to let the wind in his wake cancel out a tornado. Remember that? I don’t think he does.
So assuming there is some sort of inertial dampening effect tied in with his powers so that’s he’s not creating tornado-strength vortices wherever he goes, how fast would he have to be moving that he’d actually appear invisible to bystanders?
The F-15 has a top speed in the range of mach 2.5, which seems pretty fast but certainly doesn’t make the plane invisible. But, a small object going that fast at ground level and not creating much turbulence or noise might zip past you fast enough that you’d be all “huh?” But that’s also way faster than any numbers the show’s thrown out so far for Barry’s speed. The fastest I remember him being described as moving was around 600 mph, which doesn’t seem near enough to pass unnoticed, but again, maybe a person moving that fast would be hard to see?
I’m enjoying the show, but have to admit that I’m a little perturbed by everyone describing him as the Red Streak, when the FX always make the yellow lightning more predominant.
So, just watched the first three episodes tonight. I’ve been watching Arrow on Netflix, and sort of forgot that I can watch current shows the next day via Internet.
Wally West was the wiseacre, not Barry so much.
Yeah, I’m sick of “dark and gritty”. The Flash should be fun.
That’s my only complaint so far. Barry is not a brunette.
OMG, I love Hal facepalming in the background!
That’s been addressed in the show.
Hal Jordan is the #1 Green Lantern of Sector 2814. Why is there an argument?
Though I do love Guy Gardner
In MMO video game lingo, we’d call what he did, “kiting the boss”. He kept Vapor Boy chasing him long enough to wear himself out.
Yeah, Felicity is perfect for Barry, but as soon as I saw it in Arrow, the comic fan in me knew it wasn’t going to happen.
Since nobody else has mentioned it, am I the only one who noticed the broken-out-of cell with a “GRODD” nametag? I was puzzled by its location in the site of the particle accelerator.
