What is it about converting a video to Flash that so often results in the audio becoming unsynchronized with the video?
I ask because of free Internet porn. Specifically, BDSM/spanking porn. In regular vanilla porn, out-of-sync audio isn’t that big of a deal. Who cares, or even notices, if the moaning and grunting are out of sync? But when you’re watching a spanking or whipping, and the “THWACK” sound occurs a good two seconds after (or sometimes before) you see the impact of the implement upon the flesh, it basically makes the video completely unwatchable, in much the same way that an out-of-sync music video is hard to watch (I’m sure most of you have come across music videos on YouTube in which the drummer’s actions are completely at odds with what you hear).
Now, I can understand some issues occurring when the video in question is something that somebody jacked from the original site and reposted on a free site. But many of these videos I see are clearly promotional samples, legitimately released by the content owners, and yet the video and audio are badlyout of sync. I can’t believe that the actual content owners would deliberately release out-of-sync videos. I’m sure they know that it only discourages potential customers from visiting. So I have to assume that, somewhere in the process of posting them to these free sites, something is getting screwed up.
Are you watching your porn on a computer or a TV? If on a TV, often times audio can be a little bit out of sync with the video because of signal processing. It’s usually not very noticeable unless you’re playing a rhythm game (or watching BSDM, apparently).
If on a computer… does the same thing happen with YouTube or other flash video, or just certain videos on certain porn sites?
If you PM a sample where that happens, I could, uh… troubleshoot it for you. Yeah.
Transcoding a video can easily result in sync errors. I’ve found that the frame rate is the usual culprit; if it’s slightly off, then you end up with with the video being a few seconds longer or shorter than the soundtrack. The video gets further and further out of sync as it plays. I suspect that whoever is editing and converting those sample clips is not paying attention to the results, or just doesn’t care.
Watching on a computer (Mac), using both Safari and Chrome. I’ve seen the sync problem on YouTube, but usually only with older videos, like, from the 1960s or 70s, where somebody has uploaded a video of a TV performance.
