Well if you opened this thread I guess you are either handy with digital video or can speak English and Spanish.
I need your help.
My church partners with a church in Costa Rica. They sent us a video to be used in one of our services. It looks like they used a camera phone, and the quality is poor. I have converted it to .mpg and the audio and video are out of sync. Anyone know how I can fix it? A more ballsy request would be can I send it to you and have YOU fix it?
Also, my Spanish is not strong, and I am having trouble translating the video. It is 1 minute 45 seconds long. Anyone want to help out a good cause and translate it for us?
Although I will be able to do better when we get the audio and video aligned.

I’m of no help here, but I too have a video that needs synced. I’m sure that there are complicated ways to do it, but I don’t have any video-editing experience, or a sturdy enough rig to do so.
Chaoticbear: do you have any editing software? What you have to do is to import the file and then unlink the audio and video and move one track slightly forward or backward until they synch.
How long is it? And is the entire thing unsynched at the same rate? Sometimes they are synched in one part and not in another, so you may have to split the file at different points.
Sidenote: If you do this you should probably transcode it to a lossless codec first, if the original isn’t (I can do this for you, but the resulting file will be huge). Most editing software does not play well with lossy codecs (which all MPEG codecs are), and the only piece I know of that does–Windows Movie Maker–is likely to make the quality even worse, which you don’t want if it’s already bad quality.
I’d offer to help, but I just reformatted my drive and my editing software install disc is half a continent away.
I guess I expected a native Spanish speaker to jump in here. I’d be willing to try to translate it for you, but I can’t make any promises that I’ll be able to do it perfectly, because Spanish is my second language. But I have a degree in Spanish literature, so maybe I could help a little.
Do you have the content online? Can you PM me a link or something? I assume by ‘‘translate’’ it’d be okay to just give you a script translation? I know nothing about audio/video I’m afraid.

As far as I can tell, it’s constant. It starts out out of sync, but it may actually get a little bit worse as the movie goes on. I found these directions the other day, and I figure I don’t have anything to lose, so I’ll probably just try their way. Other than that, my only video editing software is Windows Movie Maker, and I have enough experience with it to know that I never want to use it. (Side note: when I was 11 or 12 I used Windows Movie Maker to watch porn because I didn’t figure anyone would ever think to look there, whereas they would use Windows Media Player all the time, so while I was gone on a trip, one of my brother’s friends got on the computer and discovered gigs of gay porn. Thankfully, my dad is basically computer illiterate, and I convinced him that someone must have sent it to the computer with Napster. Oops.)
I’d be happy to give it a shot for you. I have several video editing programs I use routinely. I’m also a native spanish speaker so I might be of help translating, and could add subtitles to the vidoe if you wish. Let me know.
